BMW WARRANTY AND LEATHER

Does anyone know if the 4/50K factory warranty will cover stiching that is coming undone on drivers seat. Nappa Leather sport seats.

I had parts replaced because they were scratched... I would hope that stitching is covered. Only way to really know is to take it in and see what they say.

Wear & tear vs. defect. Some dealers will be nice and cover your wear & tear anyway as mine did - they replaced the wood trim on the door because of a hairline crack. No way to tell that's a defect or not anyway. As for stitching, that is simply not supposed to happen but they may say wear & tear. If one won't do it, bring it to another.

Agree with above.

However, if you are reasonable but firm with the SA in advance, you have a better chance of prevailing.

I would point out that:

1. I don't weigh 300 lbs
2. The leather shows zero signs of wear;
3. The stitching itself shows no wear per se;
4. In fact the stitching has simply come undone due to a defect in the worksmanship.

Have that discussion in advance, when he/she is booking the car in. If they give you any "well, we need to see if it is covered", stop. Ask to speak to a decision maker. The dealership WILL drive the decision.

IMO

The same thing happened to my X5. I told them the stitching was coming off and he ordered a new part for the passenger side. It took near 2 months after the warranty had expired for the part to come in. Luckily i went to BMW just days prior to the warranty expiring.

My comfort (perforated) leather driver's side seat started to crack on the side. Dealer replaced it under warranty without complaint, although it did take like two months to get the part in (and I'm told it's just a cover, not a whole seat).

It's started doing it AGAIN, though.. Car is just over two years old and I'm not THAT fat.
