Uncovered car deliveries from BMW?

Guys I am in Long Island , NY and just saw a shipment of brand new 750 bmws on a completely open multi level trailer. It is pouring rain, they were dirty and ready to be delivered to dealer. Is this how I can expect to receive my $80k x5 50i? You would think with the amount of money we spend on a luxury SUV and custom build it they can at least ship it from Spartanburg in an enclosed trailer. Is this is the normal process fellas? Open trailer?

Thanks,
Dom

Yup. BMW use to use enclosed trailers, but went to open trailers a few years ago to save money.

Std these days; see them regularly.
Saw 3 trailers of X5/X6s yesterday, on I-81, rolling north in VA.
They are plastic sheeted on hood, roof, etc.

Cost trimming and these are cars, not Monterrey Concours de Elegance pieces...

Hey man. I didn't mean any disrespect. No need for the sarcasm. All I asked was if it was standard that they come on open trailers

Thanks for the quick reply. Oh I agree with you . I see most cars shipped this way (open and dirty lol) but ever since I was a young man I always remember BMW using white enclosed tarp trailers. I guess things have changed Bc of the economy?

There may have also been height issues with the enclosed trailers. The open ones are more adjustable. I know one of the enclosed BMW trailers hit an overpass right near my house, and totaled about 6 or seven new cars in an instant.

Also, I would gather a regular tractor is a whole lot more comfortable for the driver, and much more fuel efficient, than those Cab-over trucks they were using.

You are right. There are probably various factors affecting the switch.

The vehicle prep center is your dealership.
