Hurricane Sandy Incentive/Special offer

Does anyone have any info on what BMW is offering for hurricane sandy areas?

Many auto brands have come out with specials and I got an email from BMW that says they have one but without specifics on what it is.

Walked into BMW in Brooklyn and they were not interested in offering any discounts or letting me test drive a 535... pretty bad sales experience which I almost expected but decided to give them the benefit of doubt.

Was Manhattan flooded in this Sandy ordeal? I kind of got overwhelmed with all the other news in the media, and missed that... I remember Wall Street was closed...

Is it safe to buy a car in NYC? weren't the dealers' lots flooded? what about private garages? how can you spot a flooded vehicle that was dried up, cleaned up and put up for sale?

I tried to buy a car from them 3 times. I wont try again. The service dept is much improved since they moved and it went from terrible to great - just to be fair.

Also walked into the MB dealer on the way home (Sovereign) and what a difference. They treat you like you are human and actually TRY to earn your business.

Sovereign MB lost most of their cars bc they park stock near a canal, BMW in Manhattan is too far from water but I dont know where they store their stock. As I recall BMW NYC is not a franchise and is a factory owned location - I would tend to trust them not to sell flooded cars as new. I would probably trust any factory or franchised dealer to be honest about that. They all have insurance and they have very little upside with a pissed off customer and lemon buy backs in the future...

I wouldnt buy a used car (especially an older one that may have not had full coverage) from anyone who lives close to short in the tristate area in the near future.

PASPAR,
I bought my X5 50i from Orange County BMW, they are upstate just past Woodbury Commons. I did it all on the phone and email. They beat all the local city dealers. I live near Life Quality in Bay Ridge and I tried twice to buy a car from them, I could never get a good price from them.

Call Wyatt Savage at Orange County, tell him Brian Leonard recommended you. I was very happy with my buying experience.

Brian, thanks I already got a car. I couldn't spend time calling around and shopping this time around. I ordered the X5 from BMW in North NJ, and got the previous one from BMW NYC. The one before that I got from them but it was when the e53 just came out and there were no deals out there. The service department was so absolutely horrible (They actually called our house when my wife complained to BMW USA and were very rude) that we stayed away from BMWs for many years. Then the e70 came out and my wife had to have one... so we were back for more punishment

We ended up getting an e350 4matic (Sandy took our cars, and MUCH more). Mostly due to the $4k back they have going on now that make my monthly lease payment 40% less than the X5 for a car that is 6k less in MSRP. We never had an MB and never considered it as an option but the $ was right, they were in stock and we needed a car ASAP. its a 24 month lease - we will consider our options at a more leisurely pace in 24 months.
