What have you towed?

Haven't towed anything with my X5, but considering using it tow a track car down the road.

How are your X5's doing with towing cars & a trailer? Not sure if the 3.0 is even cutout for that, but I'm curious.

The 3.0 will do just fine. You just won't be breaking any speed limits up hills.
I think the X5 tows better than my full size F150 did. My F150 had a full tow package too.

What have I towed?

Lots of rental trailers while doing yard work. Usually up to 4000/4500 lbs. Shorter distances.

Box trailers when moving. Highway speeds, interprovince. Usually less than 2000 lbs, but with some wind resistance.

A parade float, built on a heavy construction equipment flat deck usually used for a rubber tired backhoe, and towed behind a heavy truck. Twenty people, and a band, on the float. Very low speed. X5 looked great.

A 34' Genie hydraulic boom type manlift, trailer mounted. Drew lots of attention, the rental yard had never hooked one up to a BMW before. Photos here:

22' Princecraft deckboat with 150HP Johnson- several times from Agawam MA to Island Pond VT( 220 miles/4 hrs)

BX24 Kubota tractor w/backhoe and FEL on a 7,000 lb GVW dual axle equipment trailer.

12' snowmobile trailer with 2 RX-1's, a Polaris and older Yamaha

and

The same 12' snowmobile trailer with custom made cedar railing sides overloaded with trees and branches from last years' storm and last months, several times to the dump.

All without drama and much more comfortable than the Sierra 2500 series Duramax and wth better mileage. (X535d)

After spending almost 4 months trying to get a hitch (either American or European) installed on my American spec X5 here in Germany I can now tow my race trailer.

The trailer weighs 1950 K with out the cart or any spares. It weighs 2300 K fully loaded and ready for the race.

I find that the X5 tows great. It has plenty of power.

My 6500 lb fishing boat 4 hours to the coast and back several times. Zero issues with 35d.
