Heater / Climate Control Issue
Its getting pretty cold here in PA... When i go out in the morning and start the car, the heater blows fine regardless of what setting its on (Auto or Vent)... heat blows nicely to both sides of the car.... Then, once the cab is warmed up, for some reason the passenger side of the cab starts to blow cold, no matter how high I turn it up - even to the max of 84*.... I checked the rear vents, and the same thing is happening - on the driver's side rear, it continues to blow hot air, but the passenger side rear begins blowing cold.... It doesn't matter what temperature i put it on, nor does it matter whether its Vent or Auto... Also, I HAVE gone into the settings in iDrive and changed the red/blue to all red, so that shouldn't be the problem... As a final note, all the vents blow cold, even the ones to the floor Cliff notes: heater is great until the cab is warmed up, then the passenger side of the car (front and rear) start blowing cold, while the driver's side (front and rear) blow hot as they should.... Any ideas/help? Edit: forgot to mention - its a 2007 X5 4.8i i would normally guess that its some sort of blend-door issue, but since it blows nice and hot at first, i'm at a loss..... researched the entire inter-web via Google and can't find anyone that has had the same issue |

I was planning to have my wife take it to the BMW dealer local today, but with the storm that hit, i don't think she's going to venture out... |

My front vents seem to blow different temperatures depending on whether the rear temp controls are enabled, i.e. the front vents blow cold until I turn off the rear controls, then they blow hot. Haven't bothered to look into why. Perhaps try turning on/off the rear temp controls if you have them.

I assume that you checked the climate setting in the iDrive system. It allows you to set the driver and passenger side differently. See excerpt below:
Adjusting the ventilation temperature This function can be used to adjust the air temperature for the upper body region. 1. "Settings" 2. "Climate" 3. "Driver ventilation" or "Front passenger ventilation" 4. Turn the controller to adjust the temperature. ▷ Blue: colder ▷ Red: warmer |

I face the same, settings are for sure correct, but driver side get barely hot while passenger side stays cold, I turned off also the compressor button otherwise it will keep blowing cold air .... Something difenetly is wrong.. Mine is 2008 4.8

This forum is not active like E53 ... Seems that members of E70 are so delicate to fix stuff with their hand and go directly to dealers Without updating or sharing information with others

Why fix it yourself when you already paid for it by buying a newer car with a warranty and the dealer will fix it for free?? ![]() By the way, it's also the CHRISTMAS holiday over here, people disengage from the online life to socialize with FAMILY. I am sure the E53 forum will also be rather slow this period. |
