I noticed this a few days ago. I get hot air from under the front seats blowing to the rear but not from the rear vents. |

I can confirm this after a nice long drive today... the air in the back is not hot at all. Seems it's just whatever airflow being blown back there disregarding the climate control up front (which was maxed 84F). Not sure why it has a red/blue switch in the back if it doesn't work. Don't have rear climate but you would guess that the difference is it lets you select your own preference... something is amiss.

Gents, I've had the same problem, the problem has now been fixed. Have you noticed water in the front passenger footwell? the problem lays with the heater ducting under the dash, there's a problem effecting some earlyish E70's and BMW have a retrofit kit that solves the problem, this was fitted by the dealer under warranty on mine. Basically water leaks onto the stepper motor (because of a design fault) under the dash which controls a Hot/cold flap which feeds the air to the rear vents, the water obvously buggers up the motor which then usally sticks in one position. Mine was stuck were the left hand vent blew cold and the right hand vent blew luke warm air. Common problem? may be, but the dealer said it effects a fair few, but not all, I think it's just the luck of the draw.

I'll have to go back on what I said... it worked today... I really don't know why. Maybe it wasn't on the red setting long enough last time?

This is how mine started, this lasts for about 3 months, working one day then the temp differs between the two vents the next day, then its stops working altogether. Keep an eye on it gents.

Hi Guys,
Can anyone shed any light on this problem. I've got a small amount of water coming out via the most access port plus my rear heating is freezing all the time so I suspect its a leak in the footwell pipework. Does anyone have part numbers for this so called retrofit kit for repairing the issue. Many thanks, Alan |
