Winter Set up 18" Style 209's Not Fitting on my 2010 4.8???
Had my local shop go to mount them today and they will not fit around my calipers (rim was not clearing the backplate of the brake caliper)?? I have a 2010 4.8 sport pkg with 20" staggered 214's and after a lot of thought I opted to go with 18" wheels for winter rather than keep the 214s with Pirelli Ice & Snow. I know MANY people on this forum who have the 4.8 with full sport pkg & 20" y-spokes have put the 18" OEM wheels on for winter set up. Please provide me feedback on this |

Doesn't make any sense to me. Those are the wheels that I used to have for winter on my 2008 X5 4.8i with sports package.

I currently have Star Spoke 18" 209 (36-11-6-770-200) for my winter tires on my 2010 X5 35d. This is their fourth winter. No problems with fitting.

positive they are BMW OE and not 'aftermarket OEM'?

The wheels are BMW OEM, stamped and came off an X5. I am just not understanding this as most of you have agreed...This Set Up Fits and some of you have used exact same set up. Doesn't make any sense to me. Spacers would push my wheel out to flares but still won't solve getting clearance around the caliper/brake
I can't imagine the Calipers on the 2010 4.8 with sport pkg would be any larger than 08' (?) |

Any chance the shop was mistaken? It's a tight fit but it works..
Go to the dealership and have them do it, they don't charge much (mine charges nothing actually) to mount winter set ups.

Very strange indeed as it should fit without a problem. Did you actually put them on and spin them to see if they actually hit the calipers?

Took my X directly to the dealership as I was convinced the 209's would fit on my X5 and that first local tire shop was incorrect. Spoke with BMW service mgr who looked up the wheel & specs in the system and BMW shows the 209 18" wheel as being an option for winter set up with Dunlop Grandtrek for the 2010 4.8. Mounted the wheels and although it is definitely a tight fit, its all set and runs great. …and made sure to make a stop at the first shop on my way back to make them aware & let them know Dunkin Donuts is always hiring |
