2011 35i fluid leak near center of vehicle

Hi all,

I washed my car today and noticed a puddle of fluid (oil?) leak near the center of the car.

The fluid feels oily and brownish in color, smell like oil. I did a search for other threads and google. I thought it was engine oil but all post showed that leaking engine oil should be near the front of the car and not towards the center.

No error in iDrive. Did an engine oil check and it is still at max level.

Can anyone tell me what could be leaking?

I have attached some photos.

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Seattle,

Thanks for the reply. Noticed this morning that it dripped about a 2-3 inch puddle on to the paper towel. Scheduled a service appointment with Bellevue BMW. Hopefully it won't take them long to fix it.

Thanks again for the info!

That's my primary service dealership as well.
They do, however, have an interesting habit: they would bring you the car stating it's fixed, but it's not. Seems like there's a huge communication gap between service advisor and whoever does the actual work.

Hi seattle,

Just want to let you know that you were right about the transfer case. Car is in the dealer getting a new transfer case installed. SA said the box was broken along with some seals and a VGT replacement.

Thanks again for your info!
