xDrive and 22" rim question

Car: X5 M with stock 20" wheels:
Front Stock: 285/40/WR20
Rear Stock: 315/35/WR20

Goal: X5 M with 22" rims
Front: 285/30/ZR22
Rear: 335/25/ZR22

Question: Will the new 22" size tire (roughly same diameter as stock) work with the xDrive AWD system? Can the dealer program the speedo based off the new tire size?

Anyone running these sizes???

If it is the same diameter, it will work fine. Actually going larger or smaller will 'work', but the speedo will be off. The key is that all tires have the same size, not the absolute size.

After some research, the new 22" rims with non-run-flats might actually be lighter than the current 20" stock rims with run flat tires..... As for handling, I think less side wall flex would be good on the twisties

I'm running 22's and they are almost 1.5 pounds lighter than stock 19's setup.
The ride is a little rougher but the handling and looks are awesome.

Nice looking ride! What are the tire specs for front/rear? Is your speedo off now with this setup?

I'm running the same size tires all the way around, 285 35 22
They are also non directional tires so they can be rotated.

So far so good. They have been on the X for about 7000 miles and the wear is minimal.

Ha. you actually dont know what you are talking about.

here, let me help. Consider a solid wheel with simply a rubber surface... it would skitter about the road on just slight irregularities due to the inability of the contact patch to conform to the road.

THIS is the drawback all the ricerbois fail to comprehend with 'low profile' tires. On a test drive a low profile can feel more direct, but overall the 'performance' is worse. Take me on a 'twisty' (what a stupid term) and I'll bet I can out drive your 22" rims with 19" rims...better control, more high speed stability over irregular surface, more predictability at the limits.

Actually think about this. A formula car has about a 12 inch sidewall.
So tires and performance are a very small part of handling. The tires only matter for handling when a vehicles weight grows. Hence X5 5k lbs needs low profile to handle, compared to a 2000 lbs ricer needs a taller tire.

Less weight less tire flex.

Formula 1 car weights about 1300 pounds

Ricer about 2300 pounds

X5 about 5000 pounds
