2010 e70 3.0 shuttering.

Today when my wife noticed that something was wrong with the SAV but really could not explain it. She said she thought the oil light was on. I told to come back home and let me check it out Turns out that the enginge light was on and it was some serious shuttering going on..

I got my handy OBD II reader out and read this...

What do you guys think?

SPark plug, injector clog, bad coil?

clogged injector would trigger a lean condition. I would bet bad coil, but it wouldn't hurt to try a new plug. ...or move the coil to another cylinder, if the error changes to the new bank its the coil.

ALright I did a couple of things but still have the shutter. I changed the coil to another cylinder, but the Service engine light did not come on. SO i am not sure what to believe.

Next while the engine was running I unplugged the coil to see if there was a change in the engine. There was on all cylinders. Can this be a bad spark plug?

Strike the last statement. I took it for another drive and what do you know the service engine light finally comes on. And it cylinder 1 now. I will be going to the parts store in the morning hopefully to pick up an ignition coil.

If you have an android device I would recommend getting the bluetooth version.

Paul, did replacing the ignition coil fix your problem? I'm having a similar issue and going to try the same thing to see if it's the ignition coil.

Yes it did fix my problem. I also bought additional one just in case another one goes badon me.

Also if you do a search on youtube on BMW in fixing an ignition coil call you should be able to find something

Thanks Paul, your post helped... Mine was throwing a cylinder 5 misfire and I changed all the spark plugs while there but the ignition coil on cylinder 5 had a tear on the outside rubber area. Would this have caused the misfire? In any event, I changed the coil and now it runs smooth.. Thanks again.

I wish changing my plugs and coil fixed my issue.
Same problem started yesterday for me on my 2008 x5 3.0. p0306 error. I replaced cylinder 6's ignition coil and had no luck. I also replaced all 6 spark plugs and had no luck. Now after all this work I get the following codes p0300, p0301, p0304, and p0306. (Could I have done something wrong?)

I spoke to a local mechanic and he told me that it was a vacuum leak and that it would cost me around 1200 to fix. I do trust him but I just cant see that being the issue. Does anyone have any advice on what I could try next before I bring it to the mechanic?
