Car Camera

Anyone ever consider putting one in? I have one of these in my X5 PH4 the industry's first HD multi channel vehicle surveillance system

to record your trip, if you get in to an accident you have a witness, monitor your kids driving. Lots of uses really..

one of the members here even recorded the BMW shop activity during the repairs on his car. nothing criminal but still, some dumb activity... the post has been posted about a year ago, or so...

I just installed one in my X5 and putting one into my wife's Lexus tomorrow. Insurance fraud is on the rise, and the warmer it gets, the more idiots there are on the road.

My system is from a different manufacturer though...

Does this system record hours of video (so you can monitor a repair facility, or find someone vandalizing the car) or just it just buffer the last 5,10 minutes (for capturing the events leading to an accident)? Or is it just a matter of adding memory?

Almost a million miles driving and I dont think I've ever been in a situation where the video was needed. (And a few where the video would not have been to my benefit if law enforcement had it.)

There was one case where I was cited, and ultimately won. Video might have made it quicker.

What are we talking $$$ wise... for folks so inclined?

well, you can have the video, and if it is incriminating, than you just don't show it

@ard - properly installed, with the right equipment, you have constant recording, including a parking mode.

I guess it all depends on where you drive - in my 20 years of heavy driving (with a few years of commercial), in 3 different countries (places I've lived full time and drove on daily basis for more than a few months), I've had hundreds of situations where if not for myself, then at least for someone else, a camera would have been a very credible witness.

You are looking at $100 for a VERY decent piece of kit.
