Talking E53 vs. E70

Well bought a 2007 4.8i with every option I think and thought I was going to fall in love but BMW missed the mark of fun to drive! The 4.8i although on paper has more HP and a touch quicker, isn't. Dragged raced them numerous times. I have owned slot of cars and SUVs and I have to admit my 4.6is Estoril blue e53 is a "sport" utility vehicle way more then the e70. It really lost the fun to drive factor, the motor in the e53 is peppier down low, steering is way more balanced and can feel the wheels underneath you and you truly feel like your in a tall M5, with gobbs of torque down low. I know it's not comparing apples to apples, but BMW always has a certain ease of drive or effortless and fun to drive factor and it was lost in the e70. The 4.8i is gutless at low end, yes Bluetooth and every other creature comfort is nice to have but really was expecting more, or did the e53 4.6is really hit the mark back in 2002!

you are indeed comparing the apples and oranges... besides, did you not test drive the E70 before buying it? the "iS" equivalent in E70 would be an M, as the "iS" came as close to M as they do, back at the time the M GmbH was very adamant that the "M" moniker will NEVER be applied to an automatic transmission car.. well, we all know how long the NEVER lasted... lol... so, a better comparison would be a 4.4i vs 4.8i or a 4.6iS (4.8iS) vs X5M (5.0i)...

I had an option to go from 4.6iS to the E70 body, but besides the looks, the test drives did not make me confident enough to get one - so instead, i got a freshened up 4.8iS... I must admit, i have not tried an X5M but can imagine, that it is close to the iS... I would say, 5.0 with Sport Package (or M package, if they come with one) probably be a better comparison...

what do you think?

Compare

Your right about the comparison, but for 23 grand I wasn't going to find a m or 5.0. I ended up with a 2007 4.8 with 37k on clock with every available option made. Needed more room and third seat. Just thought that motor would at least give me the same torque as the old 4.6 or 4.8. The creature comforts are nice but like most New bmw's there all losing there feel for the rode in a sense. It's all good though, alot of it I guess is the lack of attention I get now, I have a lot to do to make it stand out, but BMW hit the mark with that old Estoril Blue color, I will be painted something in future that color! I never had a car get more attention then that blue 4.6is! And I had a lot of sports cars that where limited made. Lol. I just will need therapy for a little while.

we can agree to disagree I mention it on the OP's other post. I still haven't come across an E53 that can outperform my 4.8i. and most people that feel as strong about the topic as some of you do, have never had the E70 for more than a day or two to fully compare and if they have, they have not been optioned equally.
