Considering the Extended Warranty.. thoughts?

My 2010 x5 35d has roughly 35k on it... the warranty expires next year. I've been to the dealer for a few NAV issues, backup camera issues, etc... Mechanically the car has been great so far, but these stupid tech issues have me a little concerned once the warranty runs out. Does anyone have any experience or advice on this topic? I'm not sure how much the Extended Warranty runs, but I can see how a couple of small issues can probably cover the cost.

You've searched, right????????????????

The only extended warranty that will cover Nav, cameras, radio, etc, is the BMW Platinum plan. Prices vary, but the best prices are sponsors.. about 4k+

There is a basic 'powertrain', about 2800. And a 'Gold' plan, about 3500.

Quite a few discussions on PRECISELY your question "Should I buy a warranty", maybe over on bimmerfest.

I don't have the bmw extended but I wouldn't own this car out of warranty. I've made money on my warranty in just the first year of ownership. Actually, on the sunroof alone. I made money on my previous Touaregs ext warranty as well.

I bought an extended bumper to bumper warranty (3rd party) for my 2004 V8 E53 - best thing I ever did. Cost me $3,600 and I had over $12K in repairs in just 2 years after the factory warranty expired. Sunroof repair was about $1,200. Mechatronic module in the transmission about $4,000. When the engine needed work - eccentric shafts or something like that it was nearly $5,000. Plus other piddling things.

As I've seen some things in the X5 I have now; not related to mechanical but again the sunroof and other niggling details I'm leery of it going out of warranty. And don't get me started on the annoying rattles and creaks from the rear hatch area. That has confounded the dealer who has basically made it worse with the work they've done...I digress. I think an extended warranty is valuable if you intend on keeping the car for a while.

Does anyone here knows the dealer's cost for those plans (Powertrain, Gold, Platinum)?

Im in contact already with Daniel Dutton from Pacific BMW and his quote looks decent.
Still waiting for some other dealers online quote.
