2011 Dual Screen-OEM Rear Entertainment System

I'm in the process of ordering a second X5:

2011 X 35i Premium
Space Gray Metallic
Black Nevada Leather
Dark Burl Walnut wood trim
Convenience Package
Technology Package
3rd row seat
Rear seat entertainment

One of the options I don't have in the 2009 is the rear entertainment system. The second X5 will be the one the kids will ride in, so the dual screens are needed. I've been searching through the threads trying to locate the dual screen underneath the headrests instead of the single in the middle. I was able to find the link below with part numbers, but when you build the car online it doesn't give any other options besides the single monitor system?

BMW Accessories - 2011 X5 xDrive 50i SAVual Rear Seat Entertainment System for Vehicles with Non-Comfort Seats

So, does anyone know how I could go about ordering the system with dual screens when I place the order from the factory?

I think that is like an after market option from the dealer; I had to get the single screen myself.

There is no factory dual screen option. The one you found was dealer installed - looks ugly though.

Maybe you can check out the Nextbase Click&Go here: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...nt-system.html

Yep the only dual screen setups are dealer installed - the pic you have is of the invision setup - I have it in mine (had the invision in headrest monitors from my last car, so just ordered the enclosures to mount on the new seats). I can't live with a single with 2 boys that never agree, but these are a bit intrusive the way they hang off the back of the seats, they get in the way a bit getting in and out of the car and with the front seats in their normal positions, you can't fold the second row as the monitors are in the way and you have to move the seats forward. If they where a few inches higher, they would be better.

For some reason Tischer shows dual screens that are different on their website, but may just be an incorrect picture - go to www.getbmwparts.com and go to X5 accessories and they show dual screens in a different enclosure and setup (sorry, can't post the link as their site is down right now).

I just had this discussion with my CA as I am ordering a 50i. My dealer flat out does not recommend the factory installed single monitor option for several reasons...
1. Location
2. When you fold it up to get it out of the way, it covers part of the arm rest making your elbow unhappy.
3. You can't see it from the 3rd row if you have it.

The Dealer installed BMW option with 2 monitors and 2 players was quoted to me at $2700 installed. It installs into the backrest of the seat and extends up to sit behind the active hear rest. 2 monitors, 2 DVD players, 2 wireless headphones.

Pretty pricey. Other much cheaper options are available but the dealer installed option can be written into the lease so you can residualize some of it.

I have an ipad...

Does that solve the problem with seeing the screen(s) from the 3rd row ?

I think most dealers are running a deal now with the invision dual headrest. Mine has it for $1895 installed.

I've called a few dealers to get a price on the car as I've decided todo the BMW Select program. They all seem to have to wait from their parts dept before they can get an exact price. The cheapest dealer said $2,145 for this option all the way to $3,500 at the highest dealer. All did say that is a BMW part that they just install post factory at the dealer with the two screens.

It is a BMW part that you can only buy through the dealer, but it is the invision setup that they use - invision is the dealer installed parts supplier for the dual headrest system. Cheapest I have seen a dealer sell the setup for is in the $1900 range not installed (and it isn't trivial to put in, I did mine and it takes a few special tools and took me aboutg 4 hours to do it (probably would take 2 hours the second time). $2145 is a pretty good price on it!

OEM Alternative

I have noticved that here in the UK we have an alternative option - not sure if you can get it in your region.

The BMW UK website lists this one:

BMW UK: Owner area - Genuine BMW Accessories

Which looks identical to the Nextbase Click & Go 7 Duo, save for the stickers. The advantage of this one is the price, which works out at around $600.

Alternatively, I have seen the nextbase version on Amazon for a lot less, although you would need to but the brackets separately.

I have an X5 on order and the only thing stopping me from ordering one is that I would like to keep the screens in the centre console storage when not in use and am not sure whether the 7 inch or better still the the 9 inch screens would fit.

X5Muffin.
