New proud owner of an 08 X5 4.8i!!

Hi all,
Just wanted to say a quick hello to everyone. I picked up a CPO 08 X5 4.8i with 45k mi, Space grey on black nappa leather, and warranty good for another yr. I would like to start off by thanking all those on this forum for helping us pre-owned buyers pick out the right car. I know that the X5 isn't the most reliable thing in the world, but I felt safe buying the car after reading up on the common issues and making sure mine didn't have any of them (the odd trans shifting, the slow idrive, suspension noises, electric gremlins etc). Also the service record looked good, mostly just recommended maintenance with a new water pump right before I bought it! Car hasn't had an oil change in for a while so I think it's overdue for one.

Onto the options list (here are just ones I can think of off the top of my head): Premium pkg, Sports pkg, Tech pkg, Rear climate pack, Cold weather pkg, USB/aux audio...maybe more. As far as I know it's only missing a power tailgate/smartkey (convenience pkg I think), as well as HUD (would've been cool, next time!), and rear TV.

I drove it from Chicago back home to MI and it drove like an absolute dream! It was so effortless and smooth, excellent wind/road noise isolation as well! Very impresseed, and of course I love the growl of that V8!!

Only 2 issues came to mind on the drive back:
1. The rear sunshades: Is there any way to put some kind of padding on the tab/door b/c that was the only thing in the car rattling over every bigger bump!
2. Can I disable the auto retract steering wheel or does it have to be the dealer? I'm a bigger guy (6 ft, 190 lbs) but it's not necessary and just something that will break. My lexus has this as well and plan on getting rid of it.

Thanks in advance for all your replies. I will post of pics of it at the dealership! More/better ones will follow.

the retracting steering wheel won't move if you manually set it at the default position to start. I think I keep mine all the way up and in (or close to it) and it never moves anymore - unless I change it.

as for the oil change - the synthetic can last up to 2 years (idrive will even set it as such) but recommended to change every 1.

Thanks! That's smart thinking with the steering wheel! As for the oil change, I like to do things for peace of mind, so it will be done esp after reading your post.

Here are some more pics I took over the weekend. As you can tell I'm one of the world's least skilled photographers but I think you'll get the gist of it.

Nice car. I have an '08 4.8i as well with few more options, but whose counting My tailgate rattle as well as do most others I think. My thought is to replace the rubber blocks that hold the tailgate in proper position/alignment when closed. They seem a bit hard to me. have fun.

Thanks and may I say to you a fine choice! The only things I would've liked would be comfort access and HUD. Oh well like you said whose counting right?. It's already so insanely loaded.

I solved my rattle issue by simply leaving the sunshades up. I bought some felt tape maybe it will help? I don't think the tailgate rattles much just a tad over big bumps perhaps. Not enough yet for me to mess around with anyway. Thanks for your input, much appreciated!

Mine has the comfort access. I had it for the first time on my 760 and loved it. So, when shopping for the X5 it was a must have option for me.

So, your rattles are coming from the rear doors...I thought you were talking about the tailgate. I don't have the door rattle problem. Maybe you should remove the door panels and ensure all the fasteners are present and secure especially those holding the sunshade to the door.
