Public service announcement: Windows up when refueling

I'm currently driving an X5d, and yes, here in Joisey you can't pump your own gas/diesel. Everything was going fine, regular station, regular guy pumping, no issues. Until the whacky old guy that I've never seen working there before saunters over and tries to take the nozzle out of my X5 and instead of just grabbing the nozzle by the top of teh handle, grabs the trigger too and sprays at least 2 gallons of diesel all over the side of my X from rear bumper up to passenger side rear view mirror.

Off to the detailer tomorrow, hopefully they can get the diesel smell out from the doors where the fuel leaked down inside.

As is normal, the passenger side of the car was facing the pump and I usually leave the front passenger window down while waiting. Because it was raining today, I luckily had the windows up and avoided having the interior of my car sprayed with diesel.

So, in conclusion, whether you're pumping your own or not, keep the windows up on the tank side, just in case.

Carry on.

I took it to the local car wash (I know the owner) and he had one of his guys take care of the right side with the industrial car wash soap etc, cost me $10 and a $5 tip. The next time I'm in the area I'll stop in and see the owner, it will hurt them more by me not buying diesel from them than wasting my time arguing with her and trying to get my point across when English isn't her first language etc etc. Bottom line is that it's fixed, it cost me $15 and it's fixed. If it had been worse (windows down and diesel on interior) I would have been all over the gas station owner to pay to have it fixed.

The point of this story however is to keep your windows up when refueling.
