Looking for someone to test drive X5 on North side of Indianapolis

Like the title states, I'm shopping for a replacement X5 and found one on the North side of Indianapolis, IN (near Keystone Ave and Hwy 465)... but would like an opinion of someone besides the Dealer Salesman who says, "you won't find a nicer one".

Thanks in advance.

Take it to an independent shop and pay them $200 to do a full inspection. I did that on a 35d in San Fran and the $200 saved me a lot of troubles.

You just want someone to do a preliminary 'driveby' for you, before you waste time with negotiating, yes??

You are going to get a PPI, right?? And then you will personally fly up, drive it, close the deal and drive home, right?

I just bought a CPO Honda for my sister, today. First time she saw it was today, she drove it home tonight.

I was traveling to Indy every other month for the last 2 years, right were you are talking- Carmel area. I can recommend restaurants and hotels! But no trips for a while- so cant help with a driveby.

GL, bump

Yes, even a drive by would help

Flying up and driving it home will cost me tax in Indiana @ 7% and then HUT (Highway Use Tax) @ 3% in North Carolina. It it's shipped to NC then I save 7%, airplane ticket, gas to drive, miles and time.

I have little faith in a PPI, even from BMW. My current X5 was "inspected" but they missed the leaking vacuum pump, leaking power steering hoses, folding mirrors which unfolded by themselves, missing cup holder tabs and defective CD changer. I'm open to a recommended shop, but would trust an competent E70 owner more.

I live in Carmel, and would be glad to do the first pass, also have an excellent Indie who does inspections for $300. He's done all of the work on My X and my wife's TT.

I'll be out looking at cars this weekend.

I have a very nice, highly serviced, modified 2008 4.8 if you are interested. Already have a "garage queen" and need a more practicle daily.

Thanks,
John

Indiana is one of those suck ass states that doesnt do reciprocity with all 49, if I recall. While most all states you would pay 7% for IN and get credit in your home state, not sure about IN to NC purchases

If you buy PRIVATELY you pay no tax. But if it is a CAR DEALER. the dealer is REQUIRED to collect tax, you are SOL.

Still, for the cost if a $300 plane ticket you'd risk buying a lemon? Even if they do ship it back to you?

Anyway, look at wildts car..and/or take him up on the driveby AND the indy PPI.

I did ask wildts to take a look at the car and was pursuing a PPI, but the Dealer called and told me the X5 was sold today.

Thanks for everyone's advice.
