20" M Sport rims lacquer peeling
My folks have got an E70 X5 M Sport, just over 3 years old and the lacquer is peeling on all 4 rims. It started on one rim after about 12 months but has now progressed to all four. My Dad has been in consultation with the dealer and they are saying that the wheels have been washed with something which has caused this issue. Now, my Dad has owned many BMW's and other vehicles and is very fastidious with the maintenance of his cars. He always uses quality items to wash his car and has never had an issue like this before. We believe this is a defect with the vehicle and as such should be handled by the dealer. I am just wondering, is this a common issue on the E70 M Sport rims and if so how have others gone about getting this resolved? The rims in question are this style.

Just to get this out of the way, what kind of carwash was use as well as wheel wash, also how often were the wheels cleaned and was the brake dust left on for extended periods of time.
We will take your answer after you finish your vegamite and toast.. Harry |

Same scenario but with a different BMW. They blamed me, I said they shouldn't use a pressure washer in their car wash (they did use one for wheels) after servicing my car. Never did get satisfaction.
I've had several older and newer BMWs, same cleaners, same carwashes, different dealers, but never had one do that other than that one time. Makes me think a paint flaw from the wheel mfgr. |

Sorry for the long delay in reply.
After a bit of back and forth my parents now have a brand new set of rims on the X5. BMW would not admit it was a manufacturing fault however the dealership itself came to the party to get it resolved, so full credit to them. |
