So Long X5 Updated Link for pix

I swear, I hate Toyotas. Woman slid on some ice coming around a curve. No one was hurt. The X5 held up well, except she is pissing oil and antifreeze everywhere. It looks like the oil is coming out of the cooler/filter housing (which was replaced about 6 months ago) Lots of play in the steering (with all new goddamn parts) and its overheating. Sigh. I just filled the tank too.

The X5 is toast. The insurance company made me remove all of my possessions and pop the tags yesterday and shes already headed to the insurance auction. Its like losing a member of the family.

You had them pay for the tank of gas, plus an recent expenses... plus the 7% (or whatever) tax on top of the car's total value you negotiated, right?

Insurance can't 'make' you do anything, until you accept their offer.... trick is to not let them take the car to a yard that will bend you over for storage, gives you time to argue.... easier said than done, I know. They do this for a living.

Yeah I don't really understand this situation. It's not toyotas fault your car got wrecked. And don't let insurance make decisions for you. Maybe the car is a keeper regardless of what insurance says. Especially if you like it which it seems you do.

That's my worst nightmare. My condolences. I work in a bad neighborhood and people drive like they're on a race track, they don't pay attention, beater's everywhere just slinging their doors open and dinging cars, blaring music, I've had so many close calls over the years that when I got my X I went all out on insurance, gap coverage, etc. Installed a brake strobe, and drive defensively 24/7. Still waiting for the day someone rear-ends me or t-bones me in an intersection...

You obviously need some background. In the past 5 years of moving to Illinois

BMW X5 Rearended by a White Camry and Head on White Camry
BMW 135 passenger side swiped Black Highlander and merged into drivers side Gold Corolla
BMW 528I Backed into by a Yaris, Bumper flew off of a Toyota Echo and smacked the windshield.
BMW 335 Backed into by a Rav4 Tboned by a RX300

So seemingly Toyotas have it out for me of just Toyota owners suck at driving. Im going with the latter. When you lose a car that you have put so much time and effort into taking care of you tend to not care about how you post things right off the bat.

So they've confiscated your property from you and you have not yet reached terms with them???

Odd.

Glad it sounds like you will be somewhat whole...

They had to bring it to a facility for final inspection. The tow driver and my claims adjust have said that most of the time once they leave they don't come back. Seeing how it's not drive able at the moment I'm not hopeful. But who knows.
