On my vacation in Destin last week my 2008 3.0 decided it didn't want to blow cold air out of the passenger side vents. Not fun in 95 degree weather having 140 degree heat blow at your face. Good thing you can close the vents individually and we only had another three days left till out 11 1/2 hour drive back home. Which leads me to the other half of why I'm glad to have a CPO warranty. Going through the foothills of Alabama at 6 am it was like someone threw the transmission lever in neutral which sent the tach to redline briefly. The center info screen told me to get to BMW service as soon as possible. Lol I thought. I have a semi on my ass and barely a 3' shoulder to pull on to. The semi swerved around me and I shut the engine off and restarted it which reset the lights and tranny.
The rest of the trip home I had to keep the transmission constant so it wouldn't downshift after I babied it to 5th gear. 80 mph seemed to be the right spot I thought until I hit Louisville at interstate 65 and I-264. All of the sudden all the cars around me were gone except for the trooper right behind me with lights full a glow. "Do u know how fast you were going" the nice tax collector asked. I sat there with my loving wife next to me and two kids in the back seat waiting for my reply. Ummmm, how fast I asked. " I paced you at about 80mph in a 55 zone". Well officer here's the thing about my BMW ..... He wrote me for 65. Thank you very much and we were on our way.
The next day it was dropped off at my local dealer. They are currently replacing the entire transmission and ripping out the dash to replace the related ac components. Would have been around 10 grand but only cost me a $50 deduct able

. Needless to say I'm replacing my 83,000 mile X5 with a 2013 535 xdrive sport. CPO'd of course.
