Need help figuring out where these parts go on an E70/E71

Does anyone have any idea exactly where these 2 parts go? They apply to both the E70 X5 and E71 X6 (all models). The parts diagram doesn't help much. It's number 3 in the pic below.

part number 51487158429 - Sound insulation, engine compartment, left
part number 51487158430 - Sound insulation, engine compartment, right

RealOEM.com * BMW E70 X5 3.0si SOUND INSULATING FRONT

Looks like it would go in the cabin and under the dash (left and right).
Keeps the road noise down.

I'm not sure that's where they go. The description is engine compartment insulation. But I'm wondering if they are mounted inside the fenders.

Anyone else have any knowledge on this?

Is it possibly a blanking panel? I notice there is only one in the provided diagram. In the hot climate spec'ed vehicle that might make sense since there is a radiator on the right hand corner behind the bumper while on the left there isn't. Purely speculation mind you.

Don't think so, as it is the same type of material as the hood insulation.
