oil leak from vacuum pump?

tracing an oil leak that appears to start at bottom of vacuum pump (see pic)

it has leaked enough to coat the steering rack and bottom cover

could the vacuum pump o-ring be the cause?

looks like it has been leaking for quite a while. everything under that point is covered in oily mess.

It could be the pump to engine o-ring, or the pump cover o-ring. BMW seals the former and not the later. The pump cover o-ring can be found via after market sources.
