Valves last month. Now it needs a new tranny!

Unreal set of circumstances. Brought the car for a vibration issue when shifting. Thought it was related to the recently completed valve job. SA called to tell me I need a new transmission. $7000 cost. Bmw has offered to cover 60 percent. I'm incensed. the car only has 64500 miles!

Out of warranty? Probably, it being '08..

First of all, do not assume the diagnosis is correct.

Why are you taking it to the dealer if post warranty? Those guys love chasing the problem by throwing parts at it (in this case big parts) at your expense.

Absolutely agree...take it to an indie shop to get a second opinion...most techs are parts swap specialists and rely on computers/codes to give them indicators...take it elsewhere as well...
