Creaking dash
im a new member here, and i have a black X5 and recently have developed an annoying problem. When its a hot day, there is really bad creak/rattle coming from where the dashboard meets the front windscreen? and near the front left A pillar... i'm not sure how to fix it, wanted some help and perhaps some of you out there have managed to fix it. Our BMW dealer and service station here in Kenya is crap, and they havent fixed it the three times it has gone in for this repairs. |

Try remove a pillar cover and go for a drive. Use a small screw driver to remove the 'airbag' plaque, there is a torx screw behind it, remove then pull cover towards center of car and upwards. See if the creak stops. Might be a start.

All you can do is disassemble and drive. Did they remove the dash yet? |

thank you for your responses......
yes being in Kenya does have its issues in terms of service. They havent dissambled the dash yet, to be honest i would rather they didnt because they will probably make it worse. The creaking is most noticeable when there are side to side movements during driving. The problem just started occurring a few weeks ago after a service where they were looking at the front driveshafts.. could it be the clips holding the dash pad down to the metal frame? in any case, perhaps it does need disassembling. do you think there may be another fix, that would be less invasive? i will try removing the a pillar as smokey53 has suggested |
