50i Recall that is not a Recall

Hello Everyone,
Sorry if this is old news, but I don't see a thread in this forum.

BMW N63 Customer Care Package: A Recall That BMW Refuses To Call A Recall | car News @ Top Speed
BMW offers Customer Care Package for N63 engines

Now I'm even more concerned about long term ownership

It is not a recall it is a service bulletin. Recalls specifically safety issues that are approved by the NTSB. This issue causes an engine reliability problem. If you have an BMW with a N63 engine take it in and have it checked out. There are threads other threads about this. By the way most people incorrectly call these service bulletins recalls even BMW SA's.

Wish it was a "total recall"

I have a feeling the early editions of the N63 will go down as a historically bad motor, and BMW can call it a service bulletin all they want, but when they state that SAs should contact owners, they may as well well consider it a recall. my '11 X5 50i has been in the shop three times before 50K for everything from excessive oil consumption, smoke from the exhaust, engine malfunction warnings, etc. They just replaced the injectors, the vent pipe, and even the valve stem seals, and the engine malfunction warning has come back once, and the rear bumper will probably need to be painted to remove the carbon deposits being sent out the exhausts. It is back to chugging oil, as it went through a quart within a tankful of gas.

They claim to be offering an "incentive" to trade them in for a new model, but at what I have heard is $2500, that is a joke.

Not a happy camper right now.

Does is really matter what they're calling it? Either way they're gonna fix your X5 for free….IF any of the mentioned parts even need fixing. And just what do you expect for an incentive?

Brought the car in due to a 'BATTERY DISCHARGE" error code and not only I got a new battery on warranty, but the whole Customer Care "recall" got me 10 new parts for my 2011 X5 V8. The Service Bulletin for the above mentioned "recall" is SIB #11-16-14. The work order contains 3 pages of parts and took about one whole week to be finished. Can't complain, the battery and registration alone is about $500.
