Gauging interest: takeoff plate to mount oil separator on 35d
Since I've had some people showing interest in take off plate shown therein, I figured I start up a new discussion to count interest and see if it makes sense to run a batch. I'm not interest at all in commercializing this product; I have no financial gain from this and all proceeds would go to the fabricator to cover his cost. He may make a profit, and that would be my way to thank him from making my plate. The ultimate decision on whether or not run a batch will be made by the fabricator. You will get a piece like the one in the picture below: the CNC machined plate with the elbow TIG welded. The shape of the plate is the result of laser scanning the original BMW PCV and it is CNC machine. High quality and perfect fit. It will be natural aluminum and will not include any of the other things I've documented in my post. The price is $150. If there is an interest for the plate only without the elbow, the cost would be $100. People should consider the plate without the elbow if they want to investigate other possible locations of the separator that may require a different orientation of the elbow. 335d owner should also consider this as I'm not sure whether the same positioning of the ProVent is possible in the 335d. If you go with the plate only, this is what you'll get: Last edited by ZetaTre; 01-28-2015 at 06:50 PM. |

I'm interested and I will buy more than one if it will jump start this project.

I am interested.
To pull along the project, I think there will be people that are confused by development part of your prior posts...in the end it will be relatively straightforward. Maybe a 'Final DIY' or 'Final parts list' would help? Trying to address the "If I spend $150, whats all the other stuff cost?!?" question. How long til ECS offers a kit for $495? Maybe offer it in different colors of powdercoat too? (last part is j/k) |

The is not my intent: I have no interest in selling this, or making money out of it, making a kit, answering question from customers, writing instruction, getting sued because you power brake stopped functioning. I'm not interesting in any of that. I had [or rather had the perception] of a problem and addressed it. As I thought about what I perceived as to be a problem, I realized others may think they have the same problem I do so I documented my work. Form the understanding the developments in the CCV system of the M57, to the first concept all the way to the current. I took pictures, because I keep a log of all my mods and projects, and shared them because the cost is negligeble and it would boost my ego. I organized them to give my take on how to address what I thought was a hurdle: either the bracket or the positioning and so forth. In the process my project got the attention of someone who also has a 35d but has access to advanced machining equipment. I mailed him the CCV I removed from my car and that how the nice looking plate came from. He machined one for himself and made one for me in the process as a sign of gratitude for sending him my CCV. The bottom line is this: people can read what I did, if they like it I may (MAY, not sure yet) be able to put them in contact with the supplier of the plate... But that's as far as it goes. You'll have to figure the rest of it by yourself. If you can't figure it out, then you're SOL. ECS can knock themselves over to develop a kit: if their dipstick, bracket and hoses look better than mine I may even buy them; the only thing is I'd be a little bummed if Burger develops one, just cuz they're probably gonna be mating it with their shitty ass flashy catch can and someone will say the system doesn't work. But they may also anodize the plate red... For me, the game is not worth the candle... Btw, if you want to, you can take a look at the time I added an oil cooler to my supercharged Z3 1.9... I had to relocate the whole oil filter: that's actually where I got the idea of a take off plate: http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...ses-being-made Last edited by ZetaTre; 01-27-2015 at 01:35 AM. |

YOU should not need to put any more effort...
If WE want to see this project pulled forward, maybe one of us will repackage your efforts and make it easier. That's all Im saying. (Been in a similar boat on an item on the E39M5 a few years ago- lining up machining, quotes, commitments, etc, etc. Total PITA.) Re-reading my comments I can see it being interpreted the as a critique of this 'offering' or opportunity. It most certainly is not. BTW, looks like that oil filter bracket could lift the car. A |

Speaking for myself, I'm not looking for a "package" here. All I want is the plate with the elbow on it. From there I can either follow what was already done or go a slightly different route. If someone has already discussed its construction with a fabricator and they can do it then why wouldn't I take advantage of that? If all that comes from this thread is contact information for the fabricator, I will be happy.
