Extended Warranty

Guys,

Long time BMW owner looking to get into X5M. I have found a good deal on a used X5M but it is not CPO. Just wondering if anyone knows if the extended warranty prices available from the stealership are negotiable or fixed price everywhere? If the prices are negotiable does anyone know where the best prices can be had?

Thanks in advance.

They are negotiable. Is the vehicle still under warranty though? If not, then you may find it very hard to get an extended warranty on the vehicle.

Truck is still under original warranty. Local dealership tells me that FL. law states that all extended warranties sold in FL are fixed price which I find hard to believe. Anyone in GA. that has extended warranty would be interested in what you paid for an X5M extended warranty as these warranties are more expensive than the regular X5. PM prices if you have one.

Thanks guys!

You don't need to buy it locally at all. Call BMW shops in other states and see what they will charge you for the warranty. You never have to set foot in the dealer at all.

^^ unfortunately BMW has caved to Dealership pressure to allow them to abuse customers.

The 'letter of the BMW law' is that the BMW dealer selling the warranty must physically inspect the car and run the key.

HOWEVER, be cool, chat with the finance guy at the remote dealership and see what they are willing to do. DO NOT post about special handling.

And yes, shocker- the BMW dealer is lying about a state law fixing prices for all extended warranties

I agree. But this is an oft-discussed issue and not the same as it was years ago, nor the same as other marques.

Thats all I am saying

Have at it.

But two comments:

1. If you speak to sales you will get hosed.

2. Speak to the Finance manager. He is the guy that makes the sales and closes the deals. He is they guy that is willing to pick up a few $$ for 15 minutes work. most sales guys dont want to be bothered. Also the finance manager will size you up and see if he wants to take a risk. You can always say "yeah, Im headed to _____ to visit my sister, so it would be easy to stop by". Just get pricing. You can always fess up later- and he can decline later.

I dont think lanbrown understands the situation with BMW these days....

I guess not. If he is near a border, his options are far greater though. A trip would yield the same though.
