Can I add Cruise Control to my X5?

... and is it worth doing so?

I am wondering about the feasibility of adding cruise to my 2009 X5 (just purchased yesterday). I feel like such a dope 'cause I assumed that what was a $60K(?) vehicle when new, with panaromic sunroof, all this digital stuff, power seats, luggage rack, etc., etc., would certainly have cruise control. Could I maybe just be overlooking the buttons for it? My pedal foot is so spoiled by having cruise that I can't imagine taking this vehicle on a road trip of any length without it. If I can't find some reasonable way to add it, I'll be putting this thing right back on the market. Advise, please?

Wow, I'll put my hand up and say that much like you I would never expect cruise control to be an option on a vehicle in this market segment...I do know of course that just about everything in, on, and around all BMW vehicles is an option but I've personally never seen one without cruise control and I did extensive car hunting when I was in the market for one.
Bottom line, if you don't have the cruise control stalk on the steering column then you don't have cruise control...condolences.

Almost certain it was 'standard'...check out your or the owner's manual: found on this site under Online References tab at top of page.

It's standard equipment in the US, not so in some international markets. Did you buy the car second hand? Any chance you bought a european spec model?

If you have it then the the stalk is on the left side of the steering column below the indicator. It is in an awkward place but got used to it after a while.

If you dont have it it can be add easily. You need new steering column covers (not sure), CC stalk and some coding. The TB is electronic, so you dont have to add anything to the engine.

I still feel like a dope but I'm a dope who feels much better about his (actually, the wife's) X5 now. Thanks, TriX5, for pointing me to the cruise lever which is virtually hidden from view. Well, it was dark last night when I was looking for it. Thanks, motordavid, for the manual link. Saved me from searching for that, as I didn't get a hard copy.

I'll be posting about a couple of other issues soon. I love this forum!
