Pano Roof got stuck on opening, Help
Went to open my pano roof today on the X5 and the roof tried to open but got stuck. When I ttied to open or close it again, it would move a quarter inch and stop. Looking at the roof of the car it is open about a half inch on the driver side, and nothing on the passenger side. The rear of the roof is tilted down as if it was going to slide back. I have been trying to get this thing closed for two hours, even tried to manually close it with the Allen key on the motor under the overhead console and no luck, so I am sitting in the back seat now scratching my head and writing this. I have looked for videos and forum help, but everything I see is for the issue that won’t let the roof close from the vented position. It’s like something got jammed in the track, but I can’t see the track with the roof only open a half inch.
Any help is greatly appreciated, going to rain here in NY for the next few days, so this thing is headed for the garage until I can close it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Turn on ignition and hold the vert mode and wait until it close and open

I’ve done this, the roof tries to move but stays stuck. The shade will move forward and back, but the roof will not slide. Last night I removed the glass by removing the three torx screws. I was hoping to find what was jamming the track, but there was nothing. I am even more confused than I was before as to why it will not move. The drivers side is moving a few inches forward and back when I try to open / close. The passenger side is not moving at all, will not even slide a hair. Can’t see anything obvious that is blocking the track. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Is it possible that the cable broke on only the passenger side? I would imagine if it did I would be able to slide the track by hand with no resistance. However, the track does not move at all, not even the slightest bit.

So how do you clean/check the drains?

I dont.
Lives inside a garage every night, little debris. But prolly should. ![]() |

Just leave it alone.... you might be opening a can of worms instead of the roof like I did. My roof is no longer operational, I can live with that, but the thing that’s bothering me now is the error on the dash for the roof anti-trap.... Any ideas? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Well I found the issue, but I might have to take the whole roof cartridge out to fix it:

I tried to take the roof cartridge out, but the side curtain airbags would not let it come out. With the whole carriage unbolted I was able to tilt the front down enough to unscrew the plastic trim that is also the guide for the cable to get my cable back on track. The cable was pretty bent up, and without being able to properly straighten it the roof will never function again.
I was able to get the cable moving far enough to vent the roof, and close it properly, turning it manually of course. It does open about an inch and then that where the cable binds, so the fuse is unplugged to avoid any accidental button hits. I was pretty close to doing a Pano roof delete and weld a skin onto the roof! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
