Need some advice from the x50i folks
Hello all, for those that have never ran into me, feel blessed. . . I joke I joke, I kid I kid.
I generally spend my time in the E53 section as I own Dinan Supercharged 4.6iS that I daily drive (hence the sig). The 4.6 is getting on in age and is not the best for DD duty, especially given my commute is generally pretty long. So I am looking to replace it and consolidate our extended stable some by selling our 335i as well (but that's another story). So here's the question, those of you that own the 50i, what are your experiences, recommendations, warnings, etc? I know the MPGs aren't great but given most of my commute is 95% freeway and usually before rush hour so its a steady cruise, I think I can stomach 21mpg. Also the 4.6 has a ~5.0 0-60 and feels like a supercharged V8. Is the performance of the 50i palpable? Does it feel like a TTV8 or has BMW muted it for luxury? A tune and supporting mods are very likely if I do end up with one so I could be looking at increased power levels but I want something that'll keep me happy out of the box for a year or so. Thanks. AG

I came from a 2001 4.4 E53 (died at 216k miles) and went to a 2014 50i. I also own a 2013 550i. I actually feel like the 50i is more sporty than my 550i. Might be the N63TU engine over the regular N63, but it's definitely sporty. The turbo lag is something you'll probably have to get used to, but once you tune your foot, it's fine. I really enjoy it. 21 mpg is probably optimistic. Bet on 19.5 to 20 mostly highway. The creature comfort improvements are huge, that alone makes it worth it. Find one loaded if you can, that helps a lot.

Sweet, exactly the kind of response I am looking for, thank you. I'm obviously going to test drive a couple before making my final decision but I dont imagine the turbo lag is bad compared to the duuuuuuuuhhhhhhh of the 5 speed auto in the 4.6iS. I know the 8 speed is snappy and the N63TU is a pretty high compression engine.

Hello. I have been on Xoutpost since 2012 in the e70 forum after buying my 2009 xDrive35d. I love the car and how it is spec'd out, but have experienced a few transmission malfunctions warnings at 172,000 miles. The malfunctions have been scanned and determined to be an issue with the e-clutch. As such, I am investigating moving to a newer X5. I have found a 2015 xDrive50i spec'd very similar to my e70. I am looking for feedback on reliability of the TTV8 motor and the F15 chassis in general. The vehicle I am looking at has 60,000 miles. Any comments, feedback, or warnings would be greatly appreciated.
Also, if anyone can perform or recommend some to perform a PPI in the north Atlanta area, please let me know. Thank you.
