F15 X5 Vs Cayenne

Like most of feed back on this forum we all have reservations concerning the appearance of the new X5. My lease is up in October which puts me in perfect position for an F15. From what is released so far, i am in agreement that this is not the best looking SUV. So i started to look and price other vehices. The Cayenne was a candidate and test drove the S And GTS. My first Drive was an S with very little performance options, MSRP $84k. The motor was just OK, power pulled the car but there were some dead spots in the power band. Comparing against my 11 Msport 5.0, i never really paid attention to the differances between the NA and blown motor. My 5.0 pulls hard straight through. Although the motor on this Cayenne was not a deal breaker, the Handling was. Soft for a Peformance SUV and disconnected, nothing like the Msport. Then i drove the GTS, it comes with sport suspension they call PASM, and a few More HP on the same NA motor. The PASM was substainally better and i really couldnt tell the differance between the 2 motors. That car was MSRP 97k and i didnt feel excited about the car. So i got to work building an S with PASM, deleted a few options not needed, added a few... to make it comparable to my current X5. Got it to 87k, for a car that did not perform like my current msport, MSRP 74k. I have decided to not go with the Cayenne, as i felt for the price, you got a sot SUV with a nice interior. It aint the best looking SUV either.
My point is that we are taking into account peformance as well as appearance. After my research this weekend, i can tell you that the suspension on the MSport out performs the Porsche, even loaded up with the PASM. Not sure if the Turbo is any differant but that puts me out of the price range. This takes the Cayenne off my list and i will reconsider the F15 once it arrives. Hope this helps people when considering this comparison.

We own two X5s- a 2008 4.8 and a new (2012) Diesel. Both have the sport suspension- or in the diesel's case 20 inch wheels. I drove comparative Cayennes before buying both and while I thought the handling was a toss up (I actually gave the Cayenne a slight edge- it felt more tossable IMO) the value for the $ clearly favored the X5.

We'll be buying a new SUV to replace the older X5 this Winter. While I'll reserve judgment I'm not impressed by the looks. And if the spare isn't available BMW has lost me. I just replaced the front run flats on the diesel- at 7,000 miles (fortunately BMW paid- but I had to pay for the alignment- even though the car was clearly misaligned at the factory). And a flat tire (which happened on the old one) renders the tire unusable. The old X now runs on non run flats and they're significantly quieter and provide much better handling -especially in the wet.

Read this BMW- NO SPARE NO SALE. PERIOD.

And I've owned BMWs since 1998- X5s since 2001. But there are other choices. Range Rover, Porsche, Mercedes and others all have spare tires. But I've seen a gradual erosion in what BMW provides for the money (try to find on a 2012, for example, the bag hooks and straps in the cargo area that were on the 2008), the run flats suck and I don't want an Excursion sized X5.

Well i decided not to go with a F15. BMW offered me a sweet deal on an E70 Msport 5.0 loaded with the M performance package. The exhaust note is awesome.
