My 2014 X5 M50d

This is a kind of sad story for me

I had a 2010 BMW X5 ///M, but I wanted a new toy so I ordered 6 months ago a new BMW X5 M50d.

On the paper was the perfect car:
- great engine, no turbo lag (I hate this on diesels)
- impressive fuel economy (my ///M has terrible fuel economy and especially autonomy)
- less than 3000 cmc, and this is a big plus in my country (taxes).
- 0-100 like a "true" ///M
- "M suspensions"
- etc

I do not go "on the track" so it sounded like the best deal!

See the impresive specs

I did not have any opportunity to test the car at the moment of order.
After a very, very long... time (6 months) my car was delivered.
I gave the ///M key to my wife and I took the brand new toy for a spin!

Oh... after ~500m the horror!
Sea sickness! I was familiar with the sensation from my 2007 Mercedes ML. It took me 2 weeks then to get used, but now no problem: the new engine is incredible!

Is not like any other engine!

No turbo lag, instant throttle response (much better than ///M on legal speeds), the gearbox is flawless and the fuel economy is incredible.
I was the king of the road, mom! :driving:

This was in straight line, on the road...

At about 130 Km/h, on a large curve another horror!
The steering column is imprecise, I had to do multiple corrections in order to keep the car on the desired path!

WTF!? This is not a BMW!
I've owned X53 3.0d (204 HP), X83 3.0 SD (286 HP), X5M (555 HP) so I know my cars...

Ok... let's brake! The car is dancing like the ML with Airmatic!
On the soft offroad the suspension is also useless.
I checked the suspension setting button (sport on the road and comfort off-road) + in the menus!

WTF, I called my BMW dealer...
-Man, the car is broken?!

Nope, but he can quickly find me a buyer.

I know my dealer, and off the record, he is not very proud about the new model...
Especially the new electric steering wheel.

Long story short, I kept the car for about a week and now my wife is the happy driver (I sold her RR Sport 5.0 SC a month ago and he had no car).
It's a mon-car now!

I'm back on my dear old X5 ///m with no autonomy and terrible fuel economy, but I love the Hamann exhaust sound!

BTW, the artificial engine sound in the BMW m50d is getting annoying fast!
It's like an old movie, when the car is stationary, but the background is moving, creating a bad impression of movement.

A friend of mine asked to test the car for his site: BMW X5 M50d test drive on autoevolution.

I felt the same way about the floaty feeling when I drove a 50i. The interior was gorgeous though - very jealous of that.
