Whistle

latest interior shots reveal a lot of what's hiding behind the X6 prototypes' protective exoskeletons. These new images provide some insight into the true slope of the coupe-like roofline, and the headroom penalties that result. It's even possible to see some of the terminus of the greenhouse slope, as it reaches back to the rear pillar's Hoffmeister kink. It appears that the X6's form-over-function profile will take a serious chunk out of the X6's headroom and cargo capacity, but reports that the X6 will be a pure four-seater with rear bucket seats seem to be erroneous. The X6 appears to offer three-across rear- seating, with the usual fold-down center armrest.
Spies did also manage a slight shot of the dashboard, but the flailing engineer did his best to cover the dash (which was already covered with a custom-cut camouflage cover).
Upon close-up inspection of the prototype, the camouflage sits out about 15cm farther than the real car which lies beneath. The impression is of a vehicle that is actually downsized from the X5 that spawned it.
Deliveries of the new model are expected to begin next year, BMW is already making preparations at its Spartanburg, South Carolina plant to build as many as 40,000 units annually.

i'm still unsure of what this is going to be...a crossover vehicle? what does it compete with?

looks like the e70s interior but fitted for this application, which isn't a bad thing...

Think MB CLS, but raised and with 4x4. BMW wants to create a new market segment with the sportiness & stylishness of a coupe - yet a coupe that you can take with you everywhere - to the mountains and to the beach...

The shot of the rear seats doesn't actually show that much...

I don't necessarily agree that it will be a bench seat. Although those are bench seats in the mule, there seems to be no middle seat as the arm rest is not folded down. So perhaps BMW just installed X5 parts right off the shelf in this mule just to shave costs. Mules in the FEP stage will probably shed more light on this issue and reveal what the true seating arrangement will be like...

But you can see the angle of roof and headroom.

Yes this is very true. It does give us a very good idea of what the roofline is like.

I meant it is useless in terms of seat configuration...

The center vents to climatecontrol/radio transition is hideous. Not a deal breaker, but BMW certainly improving these new gen interiors.

You do realize your looking at camo right? That part of the center stack will most likely be exactly like that found in the E70...

That dash is what you'll get. Notice how the idrive screen, etc are missing/different to accomodate this dash. This mold is the shape that will be used. It's detailed enough that you can even see that there are going to be gauges around the inst cluster.
