X6 rear seats dilemma

Hey guys do you think it will be possible to fairly easy modify X6’s rear seats and get rid of that useless middle compartment to fit extra person? I just don’t see myself buying large heavy car which could only fit 4 people.

I dont know if the seats can be modified that easily. Honestly, I like the X6 but BMW could have a done a better job designing the rear seat compartments and the seats themseleves.....What do you all think about the rear seats and the compartments.....???? I would have to see it in person to pass final judgement..

They appear more comfortable than the X5.

You are right, they do but the center compartment could have been designed better..... They could have connected it with the front center console....I know it would get in the way if passengers want to cross over to the opposite seat but practicality isnt one of X6's greatest qualities...

Don't treat X6 as a normal SUV. Rear headroom is seriously compromised anyways.

This is getting to be a real 'urban myth'. I haven't sat in one yet, but according to BMW's published figures the rear headroom in the X6 is 1.77" less than the X5.

Or to put that another way the X6's rear headroom is 0.8" less than a 5-series sedan, 0.25" less than a 3-series sedan and 0.5" more than a 3-series coupe.

That doesn't sound like its 'seriously compromised' to me, unless you need to shuttle around a coupe of NBA players on a regular basis...

Yes but even the coupe can handle 3 normal people on the back seats, in contrast with X6 which is only 2.

I understand the issue, especially given the physical size of the X6, but there's no other coupe in BMW's model range that provides more than 2 seats in the rear. Certainly not within the 'current' model range.

Personally I think BMW are stretching the 'Coupe' description a little far with something that is based on a 'utility' (i.e. SUV) theme, but then Merc's CSL is a 4-seater and there are more 4-seat luxury models coming.

The consumer will decide whether this is what we want, but I'm ok with 4-seats which is why I've sold my 5-seat ML63 and ordered one.

I don't think so. Even if you put some sort of a pad in place of the console, you'd still have the seatbelt problem to deal with. If you regularly need to put more than 4 people in your car, you should probably be looking at something else...
