adaptive drive

hi guys, i have just been offered by my dealer to pickup a 35i in vermillon red. The car is pretty well specced in my opinion, as nearly every option has been ticked. However it does not have the adapative drive option, I was just hoping someone could tell me how useful of a feature it is in the x6 and whats it like with and without in terms of handling and driving. By the way, i enjoy driving fast sometimes and I feel i have a pretty aggressive driving approach. Thanks and hope to get some replies...

IMO you should (if you can) test drive it. But to be honest, if you have an aggressive driving approach than the base steering should be just fine for you. Best if you try it, better than 100x posts od forums

I have it on mine, the sterring goes noticably sharper with it on, and the car corners unbelievebly flat.

Not driven standrd car for comparo though.

I have it on my E70 and was determined to experiment with it, whilst I had some driving to do on some really bendy, hilly roads in the Scottish Highlands. I've never really been able to feel a whole lot of difference on many roads, but you certainly do on bendy hilly stuff. Most noteably the dampers get much stiffer, and the car is very firm on bends. It gives a firmer ride, as the suspension travel is shortened. Itseemed to make the E70 much more point and shoot, ie you come off a rise on a bend, and as you come down, it just grips immediately, and you take the direction of the road much more instantaneously, which kind of reminds me of my Audi S6 Quattro,.. but for a car as big as the E70, thats impressive

But unless you plan to do that sort of driving a lot, you could live without it, put it this way,.. to reap the benefits of it, if you had any passengers, they wouldnt thank you for driving like that in the first place All IMHO ofcourse

I thought it only stiffened the Anti roll bars, and not the dampers themselves ???

Well I'm not sure about that, but I do know that even if you come off a straight rise and the car squats over the others side, the landing is much firmer, than with the system off. Also I see various bits of electronics coupled with the dampers, so I assume there is some hydraulic adjustment going on to alter the ride.

Adaptive Drive = Dynamic Drive (anti roll bars) + EDC (electronic damper control) ,meaning that the dampers become stiffer when you press the sport button

Ooops
I messed it up with active steering somehow when replying to this post.

Ehm, so in that case I would agree Active Drive as it should hold the car better on the round in curves and for aggressive driving it shoul be a good thing, that is for sure

thanks for the response guys, the general consensus among u lot is adaptive drive makes the beast really sharp and more focused in the bends and our of of corners, what am i going to do now??? i live in malaysia and all the x6's come without us having the option to specify any extras etc. We have to take it as it is or custom order the beast and wait around 8 months which is crazy amounts of time to wait for a car IMHO! anyway, im posting another thread on the specs sheet hoping that any of you could give me some feedback on options that have been selected, positive and negative greatly appreciated!
