21" only with Wheel arch extensions

BMW UK are now showing the range of 21" wheels available for retrofit to the X6.

I got a price for a set today, but was told, that they are only to be sold with the wheel arch extension kit....

I know that the X5 has this when running 20"s but have not seen it on an X6..?

Anyone seen any pics with it on ?

Hi,
I have seen various X6 with 21" in Switzerland, however always WITHOUT the arch extensions. Even the local Geneva BMW dealer had in his showroom a X6-35d equipped with 21" and not bearing such extensions.
Furthermore, if you look carefully in the BMW accessory catalog you'll find that the shown X6's fitted with 21" are in fact NOT equipped with arch extensions.
Having seen the X6 together with 21" myself (particularly from the rear) you'll find that the extensions are not necessary and perhaps even artificial.
B.t.w. on the X5 (my present car) the story is totally different; this car comes automatically, i.e. factory installed, with arch extensions for the 20". Also the optic is very different from that of the X6.
Cheers.

Hi,

Thanks very much for your reply, and i totally agree with you, i don't think they are needed, or even necessary.

The parts guy at my dealers is adamant that they can only be sold with them though

They are not right. But I can probably understand their confusion! Apparently on the BMW system it states that installing the 215 style 21" wheels requires the arch extensions.

I recently had them installed on my VR 50i and at first they told me it would take them a few hours due to the arch extensions. Then I got a call an hour later telling me they were installed and they didn't need the arch extensions because I already had 20" wheels before from the factory.

Perhaps they are needed if your X6 had smaller than 20" wheels when you bought it?

Hope this helps!
