Exclamation 2009 Bmw X5 and X6 models recalled due to rear brake discs problem

I recall reading this from a website a couple of weeks ago, just wanted to know if anyone knows about it ? My car has only 12000Kms on the odometer no problems so far, but it will be good for all of us to follow this issue (maybe we can get free rotors soon.......)
Please read the following text copied and pasted:
Fast on the heels of its announcement to recall its 1-Series and 3-Series MY2008, BMW has issued three more recall notices; this time for theBMW X5 and X6 model year 2009 and the R1200 RT motorbike MY 2007-2009. Issues with the braking system were cited.
According to the official notice posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, “The rear brake discs may not have been manufactured according to specifications. As a result, a reduction in braking performance at the affected rear wheel could occur.” NHTSA explained that in an extreme case, a crash could result if the affected rear brake disc breaks leading to the loss of braking at the wheel and increasing stopping distance.

Note that only 96 vehicles are affected (among the X5 population). From the manufacturing dates affected, it appears that a batch of discs didn't get inspected properly.

NHTSA Campaign ID:09V255000
Component:SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS DISC
Manufacturer:BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, LLC
Manufacture Dates:05/22/2009 - 06/01/2009
Potential Units Affected:96
Defect Description:
BMW IS RECALLING MY 2009 X5 AND X6 VEHICLES. THE REAR BRAKE DISCS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED ACCORDING TO SPECIFICATIONS. AS A RESULT, A REDUCTION IN BRAKING PERFORMANCE AT THE AFFECTED REAR WHEEL COULD OCCUR.

IN AN EXTREME CASE, THE AFFECTED REAR BRAKE DISC COULD BREAK RESULTING IN A LOSS OF BRAKING AT THAT WHEEL INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCES AND THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Action to take:
BMW WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLES BY INSPECTING THE REAR BRAKE DISCS AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BMW CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND SERVICES TOLL-FREE AT 1-800-525-7417.

If it was manufactured between May 22 and June 1 of 2009, and is one of the affected models of X5 or X6, then BMW will contact you.

I realize the true impact of this issue affects only a few people and has a very remote chance of occurrence, and, it is on the rear wheel and not the front where it could be more dangerous.

But having said that, one has to chuckle when reading that a broken disk brake rotor could result in "increased stopping distances". LOL

Only a manufacturer could word a statement like that. Please forgive for my insensitivity.
