How do you remove the leather pieces on either side of the cupholders?

How do you remove the leather pieces on either side of the cupholders?

Has anyone done this? I searched but found nothing.

I need to just remove them so I can slide in this stupid mount that I bought.

Here's a pic if you don't know what part i'm referring to (its the piece right under the phone mount, the same on both sides):
