Replaced Windshield

Just need to rant!

Arrrrrrrghhhhh!!!!!!!!!

Just had to replace the windshield on my 2011 X6 with HUD thanks to a massive rock chip. Last year I had to replace the windshield on my 2007 X5 with HUD thanks to a massive rock chip.

Those windshields are darned expensive!!!!

As much as I *love* the HUD, I seriously considering not getting it on my next BMW. I seem to be a rock magnet

As a matter of interest - what's the price difference in the glass? ....or is the HUD-compatible glass just more prone to rock chips?

Did you check if your insurance would have covered it? It happened once to us and our insurance took care of it with no rate increase. They offered ~$1000 towards having BMW replace it (~$1400) or fully covered (~$1000) if they picked the service. We went with the later and they replaced it at my wife's workplace.

I hear you, one week after I got my M5 I got a rock chip and the windshield cracked along the bottom. The glass alone is $ 685.00, but I love the HUD. So I will pay.

Out of curiosity, what was your total replacement cost (you can PM me if you don't want to share publicly)
