Doesn't hurt to ask. I'm just interested in the Dinan stuff. More specifically the intake, throttle body, exhaust, strut bars, etc.

Parting out always yields more $ for the seller in the end.

Seller if you are interested please message me. PayPal ready!!

Decide to seriously sell the X5 now.

$11,999 as-is

Mileage is 126,750

crystalworks 05-13-2019 08:42 PM

Good luck Tam. Will let friends know who might be interested. Well worth $12k.

SlickGT1 05-14-2019 08:26 AM

Amazing price. Amazing machine. Good luck bro. I’m getting mine ready as well. The M bug is itching me hard.

You guys are quitters! :nanana: In 15 years these trucks are going to be worth $50000.

^ At least that's what I tell myself. :D

X5M-ISH 05-14-2019 11:37 AM

The 4.8 and 4.6 is’ will reach collector status. Especially so with the 4.8is as this was the model that BMW struggled with on whether or not it would get an S stamped engine and an M badge. There is no grey area about it, the 4.8is was super close in every conceivable way to an M. But as most know, there was no M offered for the e53 because the new X5 was coming out eight months later.

Factor in how many die that are not fixed, those with salvage titles, those wrecked outright and how many are for sale at any given time and you get a feel for availability. Production numbers were not that high and the 2006 model year got the absolute best parts and iterations. The problem OP will face is a restricted pool of buyers because the truck is modded. The BMW people are full of purists and want to buy their cars unmollested. I think OP’s car is f’ing sweet but all that extra stuff will take a very specific buyer. I wish it were for sale two weeks ago ;-). I just picked up an Imola red one...and want all the Dinan parts.

I am very tempted to put mine on bringatrailer. But with no iS models ever selling on that platform it's fairly risky (in my opinion).

You could do a reserve. BaT frowns on it and will pressure for not having one... but F 'em. There is a lot of loose money on BaT. Could go either way.

I don't enjoy BaT but there is an entire community who watches a bunch of auctions, comments, vets cars, and sometimes bids so if you've got a good vehicle it usually does better there than elsewhere. I think it's a great place to sell, bad place to buy, and sad place if you are looking to own a "rarer" vehicle. BaT has almost single handedly taken the E30 tax to new extremes with clean examples of lightly modded (even engine swapped) 325i coupes selling for as much as e30 M3's did only 5 years ago.

^Take that with a grain of salt though. LOL. I have been experiencing a bit of sour grapes regarding BaT due to looking for an E61 6spd and seeing them now going on BaT for $25000+. I understand rarity and all, but it's disheartening.

I'm tempted to, but from what I gathered, aside from a I-6 5spd or two, they never listed a 4.8is.

Kinda love-hate the comment section
It seems one troll can spoil a last minute auction with rubbish/unknowledgeable info.

GLWS though!

X5M-ISH 05-15-2019 05:05 PM

With my BaT experience, and from what I understand, is that if you don’t secure a reserve price, they will force the seller to accept a heavily devalued auction price/no-reserve. They don’t care about the seller per say; the seller paid their $100 listing fee. Their real revenue is generated off the sales commission. How can they generate sales commissions if everyone puts a reserve on their sale? Not going to happen. There are PLENTY of first-hand stories of sales regarding high dollar exotics selling far below market value because the seller was persuaded into a no-reserve auction.

The E39 M5 is already a collectors item. I would think if the E53 was going to be it would be already, or sometime in the very near future. I hope you're right!

That's what I was figuring the response would be. They're interested in easy to sell vintage (or rare) cars that usually command a premium in the conventional marketplace already. Then when they go through BaT they usually get even more of a premium due to their audience. IE: E30 (especially M3), porsches, 6 speed E61 wagons, etc. E53 is still a "cheap" BMW that has not made enthusiast status yet in their eyes.

Idk, I see E46 convertibles that arent very rare or z3 3.0i on there. E53 manuals are the only ones theyve sold on there. Really a shame actually

crystalworks 06-02-2019 10:15 AM

No, those aren't rare at all. Can't say I watch the site closely enough to see all the cars that go through there. Were those low mileage examples? Manuals?

I agree. It is a shame they don't at least take up clean examples of the 4.6is and 4.8is e53's.

Tam, if this thing sticks around for much longer... I'm going to have to consider buying it. The wife... will not be happy. :D

Better to ask forgiveness than permission? ;)

eBay ad had 10.5k buy it now. Not bad assuming it's in good shape. Very unique with bbk, honestly I'm still wishing I would have bought it when tmv was selling it. Just had too many other projects.

Looks to be in good shape but I think they are not real big brakes, it looks like just a plastic cover :wow:

I believe those are actual brembos. Discs are a tad smaller than OE rotors though it looks like.
