Did you find that the rears have a smaller bore than the fronts like I did?

Ameritrades 02-02-2009 03:15 PM

Hey Drew,I see you listed the set on ebay and state that they will fit the e70 if you bore out the rear wheels yet will not fit the e53. If all the info we uncovered is true...the rears will slip right on perfectly and the fronts will need $5 hub centric rings. That's a lot easier than having your wheels bored.

To be honest, I have not had the time to try and fit this on a E70. I kind of went with the facts posted here and on what saphireblack said as he is the only one who has retrofitted this exact wheel to his E70.

Maybe a call to folks at tirerack can solve this issue. If spacers are needed, I would only trust H&R spacers that come with lugs especially with such a heavy wheel.

My mistake - I meant hub centric rings.
This size to be exact:

I researched this a bit more. Here is what I found.

Facts:
Bore opening in wheels of X6 e71: 74.1 mm Front / 72.56 mm Rear
Bore opening in wheels of X5 e70: 74.1 mm Front / 74.1 mm Rear
Bore opening in wheels of X5 e53: 72.56 mm Front / 72.56 mm Rear

Hubcentric rings "specs"
74.1mm"outer diameter"- 72.56mm"inner diameter" HUBCENTRIC RINGS - Found and sold on ebay by lakeshorewheel
Hubcentric rings are designed to go from big to small (not sure if they are backwards compatible)

For E53:
X6 fronts will fit on the E53 fronts with this hubcentric ring.
X6 rears are a pefect fit on E53 rears- no rings needed.

For E70:
X6 fronts are a perfect fit on E70 fronts - no rings needed
However, the X6 rears will not fit on the E70 rears. The rings will not work here as the bore size is going from small to big. This is why I think Saphireblack drilled out the rear X6 wheels from 72.56mm to 74.1mm to make them fit on the rear of his E70

Nice find Ameritrade...at least we know they will work on the E53 and some modification required to make them fit in the rears of an E70. I have to update my listing.

I picked up a set of the same rims for my E70 and had the rear bored out just a few weeks ago:
