X5 Supersprint SS Exhaust *nearly new* F/S

A friend of mine asked me to post these for sale...

He bought a left/right set of Supersprint resonator-back twin-round-tip exhaust pipes and had a muffler shop put them onto his '01 X5 4.4L. They sounded awesome with a deep American small-block V8 tone that turned heads at stoplights when on the gas a bit (but not wake-the-neighbors over the top noise). Personally, they were keepers and I would have bolted them to my ride in an instant, if I had an X5...

Anyway, the low resonating frequencies were aggravating over mild radio (he's a talk radio fan), even after some attempts with sound deadening to reduce the humming noise in the cabin. So after 3-4 weeks they are out of the car for the stock exhaust and up for sale.

The delivery price was $712 each (US$); total $1425 with no sales tax from Texas. I'm willing to let them go at $712 for both (steal!), plus S/H. We still have the original boxes but have to have them repacked so the pipes don't end up as pretzels. Shipping insurance is highly recommended.

I can also deliver them personally to anywhere in New York State north of Kingston (the real upstate!), Massachusetts, southern Vermont or Eastern Ontario Canada, subject to weekends and/or distance. This saves the giant unknown of the UPS system and boxing hassles; maybe customs for the Canadian folks interested.

There is a mild cosmetic blemish on the pipe lengths where the Ziebart undercoating clowns goobered some of the bed lining compound onto the pipes. They cleaned off 95+% of it but a few clumps are still there. The mufflers and tips are still mint, so unless somebody is way under the car and looking they won't notice. Doesn't affect the structure of the piping in any way.

Contact me via a private board message for more info, photos while on the ride and off, or sale offers.

The pipes are 100% stainless steel so they shouldn't rust in the winter climates. The 304 stainless oxidizes a little to a slight dull-grey color, but the tips are chromed so they will always look purty. They should fit on any motor from 2001-2004; I heard rumours of changes on the 2005 but I haven't seen one to confirm. The 3.0L diesel motors need flanged hookup pipes welded on to the resonator to make these fit (available from Supersprint). The petrol motor exhausts already have the flanges, so it's 4 bolts and on. The hangers are in the right spots for stock brackets. Double check the technical bits from SuperSprint; I'm not responsible for fitment on your application but I can tell you what we did. YMMV.

Thanks for looking. Somebody will get a hell of a deal.

Here's the "on-the-car" shots. I'll get some of the "off-the-car" shots posted tomorrow afternoon with daylight. It's supposed to be cloudy so there shouldn't be much glare.

Man I want this so bad.
Can I get a sound clip?

I have a 2004 4.4i, do you think it'll still fit?

Where are you located??

I'm in Watertown, NY - north of Syracuse by an hour or so. I play a lot in Central NY and Western Massachusetts on weekends, so driving the exhaust around is not a big deal. I am 45 minutes from Gananoque ON and heading up to Kingston ON for dinner is always a treat.

I don't have a sound byte, sorry. It wouldn't carry the chest-resonating frequencies very well anyway... Nothing captures a stereo exhaust worse than a mono microphone with crappy encoding on a PC. =( Think of a Chevy pickup with a 350, twin pipes, and Flowmaster 60s (the more subtle models), not 40s (common whiplash models).

The pipes should hook up with no problem to your 2004 X5. If you can look at your undercarriage and compare with the photo above, you've got a good chance. Make sure you have flanges/bolts at the back of your resonator and not a welded pipe. Not many shops can weld stainless well (TIG takes serious skill) so I'd rather have pros mold the parts and have the locals bolt them on. Apparently BMW thought so too.

Re: motor compatibility: there may have been some changes in the supertuned/stroker motors (4.6L?) that include exhaust relocation... and my earlier post about hookup pipes only applies to diesels (likely different resonator for emissions, if any?). The gas 3.0L looks like they don't need the hookup pipes. Again, double check other sources to make sure since I don't own an X5 (or a dealership of 'em) to confirm.

No buyers have closed the deal yet and I promised daytime photos. I'm sorry it's been a while; the multi-week rain in the Northeast has finally let up.

Anyway, the offer still stands and look below for the as-is shots.

I'm not trying to jack this guys post....but from stuff I've read in the past, SS tends to have issues with their welds., FWIW

Welds

I've done a fair mount of MIG and stick welding with mild steel on my off-road vehicles so of course I was interested to see how SS did with their stuff. The welds look solid, smooth, good patterns and alignment, and professionally done with a TIG welder. No holes or goof-ups.

Of course I don't have an X-ray machine to do a thorough inspection. Perhaps the quality control guys are asleep some days or certain models...
