I wonder how my local shop was able to reprogram my other key to the guy I sold it to. And he is using in his E60 right now. Not only the keyless function, but to start his car.
Amazing.

Sorry if I sound skeptic, but as a BMW certified technition, I seem to remember (know for a fact) the keys having to be ordered by vin#, with a copy of the current registration and owners drivers licence on file at time of key sale and the key has to be signed for at pickup/delivery. And if the key is not for that car it can not be set to operate any other car as the vin# and rolling codes in the key are permanent.
In fact if a customer has a key stolen, they can bring their car to the dealer and have the stolen key turned off so it doesn't work anymore.
(I went to fricken school for this bub)
And if you are saying the "local shop reprogrammed the key" then you should have no problem producing a repair order with the viable info.
