WTB Window Regulator

I am looking for a replacement rear Window Regulator. I have a 2001 BMW X5. Also anyone in baltimore maryland able to install this for me? My local BMW dealership is charging a bit too much for my pockets now. I live in Owings Mills, MD.

Thanks in advance.

Someone please help, do these things go bad all the time? This is my second one in 5 months on two different doors. This is no cheap fix. Unfortunately this time a year I dont have the $369 the dealership is asking to fix this known problem as the dealership said. I am out of warranty period as well. I have been doing some research and the part is pretty cheap. As a matter of fact the dealership price is only $7 bucks more than ebay. So all the rest is damn labor.

Please help you MD X5 owners that can.

Thanks

Have you checked out the thread on this site showing the install of this part? It looks like it might not be too hard of a DIY.

I did see it, but I am not a very car technical person. I really dont want to screw anything up. Plus it is so darn cold in md, doing that DIY outside would probably land me in the hospital. Would take me hours and a person that knew what they were doing much less.

I understand, I am real handy, but I live in Cleveland, and I could not imagine doing this outside in the middle of December. Your best bet would be to see if there are any good shops within 15 or 20 miles from where you live. I am fortunate that there is a place in cleveland that does excellent work, and is much cheaper than the dealer. Good luck

Check with Rob_ for pricing on the window regulator. I just ordered one from him last week and had it shipped to my house. I plan to install it this weekend. It'll be the 2nd time for that window (passenger side front)

Thanks again guys. I just sent rob_ a pm for pricing. Now I just gotta find someone near me that can install it at a decent price. This will be #2 for my X5. This summer the driver door had the same problem. Anyone know what causes this? It seems like the doors that get the most usage have this problem. This really sucks.

Honestly, the cause is a very poor design. And the kicker is that the part that fails could easily be replaced for about $5, but BMW will only sell the complete unit

My experience, as far as usage, is the opposite of yours. The ones on mine that have failed are the windows that I use the least frequently. The one I'll be replacing this weekend for the second time has probably been used less than 50 times since the last time it was replaced. :dunno: On the other hand, my drivers side front, which gets used the most, has never been replaced. Go figure.
