WTB: OEM black headrests (sport)

I believe sport. I have some OE entertainment units I want to retrofit but need these headrests to do it:

the posts on the OE headrests are solid, you need a hollow one to run the wires inside or run them outside the post...

keep the OE HR intact, and order the aftermarket headrest system, with DVD and the whole 9 yards - check eonon ebay store - they fit ok, you will need to used some zip ties or the like, to make sure they don't rattle inside the seats... and, it will be cheaper too... and once you are done with the car, you can put the originals back on, and sell the car, and still use the DVD headrests in new car (assuming it will have black interior) ;)

So those are aftermarket?

I have the same exact units but for an x3:

I haven't taken my seat back off yet but I doubt there will be a way to make those work on the brackets they are on.

I have something like this
2X 7 inch Car Headrest DVD Player Radio TV Monitor Headphones Game Handles Black | eBay

my model is older (about 6-7 years old), but it has the cover flap to cover the monitors from prying eyes, it will play DVDs from all regions (tested OK), has headphone jack in front, speakers, IR out for IR headphones, FM out on several frequencies for your car radio to pick up the sound from the kids' movie (you can set up each monitor to its unique frequency to avoid interference), it does USB, SD and MMC cards.

The only thing it wants from the car, is a switched power - I have tapped into the wake-on-LAN power, the one that goes to sleep after 16 minutes, so the kids have a chance to wind down their last seconds of the movie without me killing it for them when I shut the engine off... and once the car goes to sleep, if they forget to turn off the monitors, they shut off...

I am not a fan of aftermarket things in my BMWs, but this one is doing rather well - I also have the OE set up in the other car - I hate it...

I'm getting these screens for near nothing compared to what they were new. Its the only reason I even wanted to put them in but i'm only interested in doing it if I can use what I have. You don't think a stock headrest could be modified to house them securely?

What does rastafarai have? They must have used some OE headrest as a base, no?

TerminatorX5 03-20-2013 04:49 PM

well, those monitors get into the headrests somehow, and i am sure somebody can put them in... money talks and if you throw into it enough money... :)

i just did not want to go overboard - those things end up in the hands of my kids on the back seat, and the very first set of monitors did not survive the abuse they put them through, so i got a new set - at $200 for a set, if they last me a few years, i am ok... luckily, kids outgrew that destruction stage... lol...

theoretically, you would take a headrest, make an X cut in the back, secure the monitors in there (I am sure the "skeleton" monitors have needed hardware), run the wires (the OE posts are solid, so you need either replace the OE posts with hallow ones, or run wires taped to solid posts)... since OE also offers monitors, there might be a part in RealOEM with a hallow post...

Too much hassle in my book... lol...

try to page rastafari, see what he has to say about his set up...

Sorry for late bump . Rastafarai had INViSiON DVD Headrests.
Btw those X3 monitors are external mount you can mod those to your seats without changing the head rest by cutting out the slot on top of the seat and slide it in and secure from the in side .
