Just doing a little cross promotion...

I want Sirius and prior to 03 it wasn't an option so the system can't handle it. The alternative is a modulator of some sort but I've tried it before and don't like it. I put in a Pioneer with the flip up screen so now I have Nav/Sirius/Changer/Ipod control all through the touch screen.

I never pulled the nav out of my X to see how much room there is but anybody thinking of putting a double din unit into an E39 (5 series) it probaby isn't going to fit. There is a deep space at the top but it's shallow at the bottom.

To install Siruis in your 540 all you had to do was replace your radio module with one from a 2004 or newer.

For those considering this nav screen, do note that while the physical dimensions of the e38/e39 5-series and 7-series nav screens are the same as for the X5, there is a noticable difference in how the screen itself is adjusted in order to optimize it to the viewing angle for the respective vehicles. I had installed a widescreen from a 5 series into my X5, and while it was usable, when I replaced it with one that was meant for an X5 I found that the screen picture and colors were much much better.

That's what I get listening to the steeler. I used to have a '02 525 and wanted to do just that. They told me it was 'cost prohibitive' to change out the parts. I just didn't bother this time and went right to aftermarket. Not a factory look but doesn't look tooooo bad. It also gave me the opportunity to update the rest of the system in one shot - speakers, amp, sub, etc.
