As most of you are aware some of these cars advertised with too good to be true prices are fraud. I just went through the process of buying a used X5 & did the whole internet & printed classified searches for about 3 weeks. EVERY single time one was more than $5k below market value it was a similar story: "I just move to Italy or eastern europe...my car is here...I need to sell it...I just need a small deposit...i'll ship the car....you inspect it...etc...you loose your deposit.
However there are sellers who don't want/can/like to go through the process of taking a picture, posting it, meeting lots of potential buyers, spending their saturday afternoons driving around with strangers who will sell it cheaper to avoid having to "play the field" of buyers.
It happened to me, this lady had one buyer's financing that fell through, did not want to waste another week & saw my cash as a relief....I paid $21k for an immaculate 2k1, 75k miles w/cpo
So craiglists works but it also attracts crooks just be aware
