SOLD: 2003 BMW X5 4.6is 61k miles - $22,250

SOLD

NADA Clean Retail Value: $25,550
NADA Trade-In Value: $21,750
(and this pricing doesn't account for the modifications and upgrades)

For sale is a BMW X5 4.6is (engine designed by Alpina). I purchased this X5 just as its certified preowned status was ending, so it has been well cared for. I have no complaints at all about this performance X5 – I love it. I have too many cars and have decided to sell this one to justify a future purchase - a 2010 BMW M5 (I just sold another of my toys - a Jaguar S-Type R).

This X5 4.6is is in a nice exterior/interior combination: Estoril Blue Metallic exterior over black M-Sport cloth interior with leather seat trim and titanium aluminum dash trim. There isn't an option this X5 does not have and I suppose I could start anywhere:

· DVD-based onboard navigation system WITH PERSPECTIVE-MODE (new screen – no dead pixels!)
· Reclining rear seats (electric)
· Onboard computer,
· Power-telescoping tilt wheel
· Heated front seats (with memory and power-adjustable lumbar support)
· Heated rear seats
· Cruise control
· Six-disc CD changer
· Dual-zone digital climate control
· BMW assist
· Rear climate control
· Rear-window privacy shades
· Automatic Xenon headlights
· Automatic rain-sensing windshield wipers
· Headlight pressure-washer system, split-folding rear seats
· M series instrument cluster and seat cloth
· Park distance control
· Hill decent control
· Universal Homelink Garage Door opener
· All wheel drive
· Roof rails/luggage rack (I took it off but will happily reinstall it for the buyer)
· And a plethora of other standard features as well as options.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention the core and "soul" of this X5: the BMW/Alpina designed 4.6 liter M62 eight-cylinder powerplant. The M62 puts out 340 horsepower and punishes the tarmac with 350 foot-pounds of torque (it’s serious torque). All of this power is channeled through BMW's brilliant five-speed tiptronic transmission. The X5 is all wheel drive with power being split 60-40 (rear wheels-front wheels).

In the case of this X5 4.6is, all of that power finds it way to the ground via a custom set of BMW style black powder coated 20" staggered wheels – 20x10 front and 20x11 rear.

These slick wheels are wrapped in a new set of the baddest tires made - Vredestein Sessanta, 315x35x20 rears, and 275x40x20 fronts (these are meaty, and they ain’t cheap either!). The tires have less than 2,000 miles on them.

Also, the X5 has:
· new KYB front struts (I am a big fan of KYB - they make the X5 handle likes its on rails)
· new rear Bilstein struts
· new Eibach front Pro Kit springs (lowered about 1.25 inches)
· rear lowering links for the air suspension
· new front and rear Eibach sway bars
· Ingalls camber kit and professional alignment
· Custom Magnaflow exhaust with new chrome tips with built-in resonators (sounds awesome and flows better than Dinan)
· AC Schnitzer pedals and emergency brake handle
· New custom smoked LED taillights
· Black carbon fiber BMW emblems on the trunk, hood, steering wheels, and all wheels
· Smoked side blinkers and rear third brake light
· New rubber BMW rear cargo mat for carrying items (not pictured in the photos)
· New front windshield (I hate looking through a five year old windshield with pits and nicks from road debris)

As for the overall condition of the car, there are no leaks, no funny noises, it does not appear that it has never been smoked in (I’m asthmatic and hate the smell of cigarettes), and it has no mechanical anomalies of any kind of which I am aware. In short, there are no known issues and this X5 requires nothing but a proud new owner. You will not find an X5 in this condition for this price.

Now, this BMW X5 has been well maintained and the paint exhibits a purity only found in garage-kept/well-maintained cars (I keep all my vehicles in a garage). There are a few paint nicks, small scratches, etc., and overall normal wear and tear for a vehicle of this vintage, but nothing major – if there were any major issues, then I would fix it. I keep my vehicles in outstanding condition. This X5 looks better than many of the X5s I see that are half its age, but it's not new.

Also, I recently steam cleaned the seats and carpets to control dust (I have asthma) - the X5 smells like new. I condition all of the leather in the X5 with Lexol leather conditioner.

As to maintenance, I took the X5 4.6is to my local BMW dealer after purchase and had it inspected for any issues. Per their recommendation, I had them install a new oil pan gasket, replace a leaking inner CV boot (the opposite inner cv boot was already replaced), and install a new window track in the driver’s side window (the power window wasn’t working properly). The dealer found nothing else. I also replaced the windshield with a new one and removed the factory roof rails (I will reinstall the roof rails if the buyer prefers them). The X5 has new LED smoked taillights, tinted front headlights and fog lights, and custom carbon fiber BMW emblems on the hood, trunk, wheels, and steering wheel, and a new rear rubber cargo mat.

Also, some additional photos are available here (contact me for the password):

The X5 4.6is includes the original owners manual and leather portfolio, 2 keys with remotes, and factory springs. I drive this vehicle, so the mileage may be slightly higher than stated. Also, I am also not going to sell this X5 if I don’t get a fair price for it.

If you have any questions at all, then feel free to send me a note. Do not, however, turn this thread into DISCUSSION - that is not the purpose of the for sale area. I can assist with shipping the vehicle at the buyer’s expense, and I have a very good contact that can get the buyer a fantastic shipping rate.

Thanks for your interest. NOTE: There is an exhaust clip at the end of the photos. This clip was recorded in a very cold garage when I first started the X5 one morning. It quiets down a lot after the X5 warms up, but still rumbles when you put your foot into the gas pedal.

You may want to edit your post given that xDrive didn't show up until 04 models....

Free bump.

Good catch. Not sure where that word came from, but the definition in the ad for the 60/40 split certainly didn't match it. Guess that's what I get for doing a cut and paste from a website description. Take care.

re:

I got your message. I have already been offered and turned down $22K by a local buyer, and he is still standing ready to buy any time. So there is no need to contact me again asking if I will take $20K or less.

where were you 4 months ago!! I picked up a really sweet and well cared for 03 4.6is in Estoril this summer. It had 95K miles on it and was also a former CPO car with excellent all factory service history and very meticulous owners. The one thing I would have liked would have been a little bit less miles. Oh well. I am very happy with it, and highly recommend this combo to anyone in the market for a unique performance SUV.

What is even more ironic is I had my buddy from CO go out to KY to pick up mine and he drove it back to Vail. I flew out and drove it home to CA. Yours in CO would have saved us one extra step and 2500 miles of driving. Oh well!! Sometimes timing is everything!!

Best of luck with your sale.
