FS: Electrochromatic (auto-dimming) side view mirrors for E53
I have a pair of Electrochromatic (Auto-Dimming) side view mirrors (just the glass) for sale.
BMW Part Numbers w/ list prices 51 16 8 247 769 MIRROR GLASS HEATED PLANE LEFT $328 51 16 8 247 774 MIRROR GLASS HEATED CONVEX RIGHT $343 These are the mirrors you get for a US Spec E53 X5 with "auto-dimming, folding mirrors", also known as Option SA430 Electrochromatic Mirrors. They are clear and do NOT have the blue tint. They automatically darking (dim) when there is more light behind you than in front - very nice for all those Xenon equipped SUV's out there! The variable dimming signal comes from your existing rearview mirror, so you MUST have an auto-dimming rear view mirror for these to function. Your X5 may or may not be pre-wired for the auto-dimming mirrors. There are 3 sets of wiring needed for them to dim: #1. 2 wires from your rear-veiw mirror running above your headliner, down to your door jamb #2. 2 wires from your door jamb, behind your door panel, up to your side mirror #3. 2 wires in your side mirror assembly For wiring #3 it is unlikely your side mirror assemblies have the wires. You can just cut off the electrical connector from the glass and make your own connection, or you can order the matching BMW connection (61-10-8-365-385 PLUG HOUSING) and 2 waterproof contacts (61-13-0-005-200 PIN CONTACT). I have not ordered these parts, but I think they are correct. The easiest way to see if you have wiring #1 and #2 is to disconnect your door jamb connector and look in both for the metal pins & sockets in locations 20 and 21. If you don't have them, you can run your own harnesses - it takes time, but I've done it on an a 540i. ![]() I couldn't find any old posts on this forum selling these mirrors, and there was no history at all on Ebay, so these must not come up for sale very often. As they list for almost $700 new, I'll start with $300 shipped anywhere in the USA. Note: In the interest not having any surprises, the driver's mirror has some tiny (smaller than a pin head) dots on the surface of the glass - perhaps from car wash wax?? My glass cleaner wouldn't take them off, but never saw them until I was up very close. Hope this pic isn't too big... ![]() Note: If you also want the electric folding function, you would need new mirror housings (which don't come with glass). There is a write-up on the X5 homepage for retrofitting these. |

Yes, they are still available.
I did order the electrical connections & wires, and they do connect to the mirror harness.
