Would you still have the fan button cover with the + and - ?

If so, is it undamaged?

Do you still have your left side red temp increase button?

I may need it,....not sure yet. Can you tell me how to remove the current button,.....it is not returning to its raised position,....it is constantly in the pressed or depressed position.

The buttons lift out from the bottom. Stick your finger under it and with just a little pressure it'll come right out. Likely one of the little pins under it it stuck. You may be able to get a little pick and return it to its normally upright position.

OK, Thanks. Got it out,....I swapped the passenger side button which looks different on the back,....and it works fine,....so, its definitely the button.

I'm going to just swap the buttons for the time being. and see if I can modify it with some epoxy.

Thanks,

Brian

On mine - my issue was the little pins that are under the button. Not the button itself but the stuff the button presses on the unit itself. From memory there is a little spring-loaded pin on each side. On mine the spring slipped or something like that and had the pin jammed in the partially/mostly depressed position to shut the unit off. This is why the button once installed was floppy and leaning to one side.

My wife was very hard on the buttons and seemed to believe that pressing on them hard was a good idea. Who knows.

Anyway. Once I had the button de-installed I was able to coax the pin back-up a bit. Before the mechanism was depressed all the way and wouldn't allow the climate control to turn-on one day. It kept turning itself off. I thought I was in trouble but it turned out to be fairly simple.

My button still leans a little bit but is better than before. I don't mess with that button at all and let the automatic climate control stuff make all the fan-speed decisions for me

Oh - I've got a couple videos up on YouTube here.....

This summer I'll be able to TOW my bug to the track with my X5 rather than drive it 90 miles each way - and hope I don't break anything.

Some nice runs in the videos.

Other than the Webers, it looks surprisingly stock. Figured you would have to be at least 2100cc and somewhere near 200 hp to get those kinds of numbers. Did you start with a stock VW magnesium block?

Sold my Sand Rail a few years ago. Still miss it.
